Katy later trained at the University of Bath. There, she studied Coach Education and Sports Development. She is a big fan of Sheffield Wednesday football club. She remembers going to watch their matches with her dad when she was little.
Katy's Amazing Career
Katy Livingston has had a very successful career in modern pentathlon. This sport is quite challenging because it combines five different events: shooting, fencing, swimming, horse riding, and running.
Junior Competitions
From 2003 to 2005, Katy competed in three World Junior Championships. She helped her team win gold medals in 2003 in Athens and in 2005 in Moscow. She also earned silver medals in the relay events in 2003 and 2004. In 2004, she won a team silver at the European Junior Championships.
Senior Success
In May 2007, Katy won a silver medal at a senior World Cup event in Moscow. The next month, at the European Championships in Riga, she finished 6th in the individual event. This great result meant she qualified for the 2008 Olympics!
At the same European Championships, she won more medals. She took home a silver medal with her team, which included Georgina Harland and Mhairi Spence. She also won a gold medal in the team relay event with Georgina Harland and Heather Fell. Because of these amazing performances, the British Olympic Association named her their modern pentathlon Olympic athlete of the year for 2007.
However, the 2007 World Championships in Berlin were tough. During the horse riding part, she fell from her horse twice. This caused her to drop from first place to last.
In 2008, Katy bounced back strongly. She won a gold medal at the World Cup event in Cairo in February. Then, in June, she went to the World Championships in Budapest and won an individual bronze medal.
