Keane is a famous English rock band that started in East Sussex. They are special because they use pianos a lot in their music, instead of many guitars. The band members enjoy music from groups like The Beatles, U2, and Oasis.
Tim Rice-Oxley and Dom Scott used to write the band's songs together from 1997 to 2001. After Dom left in 2001, Tim started writing all the new songs by himself.

The Story of Keane: How the Band Started
Early Days and First Songs (1995-2003)
The band's pianist, Tim Rice-Oxley, and singer, Tom Chaplin, were friends since they were very young. They even went to the same schools. Later, they met Richard Hughes, who would become the band's drummer.
Tim formed the band in 1995 with his friend Dominic Scott. They first called themselves "The Lotus Eaters." In 1997, Tom Chaplin joined, and they changed their name to "Cherry Keane." This name came from a kind lady who served tea at Tim and Tom's school. Soon after, they shortened it to just "Keane."
At first, Keane played songs by other artists. But they soon wanted to create their own music. Their first live show was in 1998 at a pub called "Hope & Anchor" in England.
They made two music CDs and sold them at the pubs where they performed. In 2001, Dom Scott left the band. Tim Rice-Oxley then wrote the song "Everybody's Changing" about this change.
In December 2002, a music expert named Simon Williams from Fierce Panda Records saw Keane play. He liked them so much that he offered to release their first official song, "Everybody's Changing." This song came out in 2003.
Big Success with Hopes and Fears (2003-2006)
After releasing another song, "Somewhere Only We Know," in 2004, a big record company called Island Records asked Keane to join them. Their first major album, "Hopes And Fears," was released in May 2004.
This album became very popular. It was the second best-selling album of that year in the UK. "Hopes And Fears" sold five million copies around the world. In 2006, the band was even nominated for a Grammy Award, which is a very important music award.
New Sounds: Under the Iron Sea (2005-2006)
Keane started working on their second album, "Under the Iron Sea," in 2005. They worked with a producer named Andy Green.
The first two songs released from this album were "Atlantic" and "Is It Any Wonder?." This album also sold very well, reaching two million copies worldwide.
Perfect Symmetry and Strangeland (2008-2012)
Their third album, Perfect Symmetry, came out on October 13, 2008. It was also released with Island Records and received good reviews. Songs from this album included "Spiralling," "The Lovers Are Losing," "Perfect Symmetry," and "Better Than This."
The band's fourth album, Strangeland, was released in May 2012. It quickly became the number one album in the UK. Popular songs from this album include "Silenced By The Night," "Disconnected," "Sovereign Light Cafe," and "Black Rain." The album cover and the video for "Sovereign Light Cafe" were filmed in Bexhill-On-Sea, East Sussex, which is a special place for the band.
Coming Back with Cause & Effect (2018-2019)
After taking a break for five years, Keane got back together in 2018 to start working on new music. Their fifth album, Cause & Effect, was released on September 20, 2019.
This album included songs like "The Way I Feel," "Love Too Much," and "Stupid Things." It reached number two on the music charts.
