Kelly Paul Oubre Jr. (pronounced OO-bray; born December 9, 1995) is an American professional basketball player. He plays for the Philadelphia 76ers in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Kelly played college basketball for the University of Kansas for one season. He was picked 15th overall in the 2015 NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks. The Hawks then traded him to the Washington Wizards. Kelly has also played for the Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors, and Charlotte Hornets.

Early Life and High School
Kelly Oubre Jr. was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was the second child of Kelly Oubre Sr. and Tonya Coleman. Kelly and his family lived in a public housing area during his early childhood. Later, they moved to the Eastover part of New Orleans.
He went to Edward Hynes Elementary School. During that time, he played for three different basketball teams. In 2005, his family moved to Richmond, Texas, after Hurricane Katrina. Kelly attended George Bush High School in Fort Bend, Texas. For his senior year, he moved to Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nevada. In October 2013, Kelly decided to play college basketball for the Kansas Jayhawks.
College Basketball Career
Kelly played for the Kansas team in the 2014–15 season. He was a freshman. During this time, he was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week twice. He also earned a spot on the All-Newcomer Team.
In 36 games, Kelly averaged 9.3 points and 5.0 rebounds. He also had 1.1 steals per game. On April 1, 2015, Kelly decided to enter the NBA draft. This meant he would not play his last three years of college basketball.
Professional NBA Career
Washington Wizards (2015–2018)

The Atlanta Hawks picked Kelly Oubre Jr. 15th overall in the 2015 NBA draft. His draft rights were then traded to the Washington Wizards. On December 16, 2015, he scored 18 points, a career high at the time. This was in a game against the San Antonio Spurs. Even with limited playing time, Kelly showed he could be a good "3 and D" player. This means he was good at shooting three-pointers and playing defense.
On November 28, 2016, Kelly achieved his first "double-double." He scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. This helped the Wizards win against the Sacramento Kings. On December 10, he scored 19 points, a new career high. He also had nine rebounds and three steals. This helped Washington beat the Milwaukee Bucks. Kelly was suspended for one playoff game after pushing an opponent.
In the 2017–18 season, Kelly scored over 20 points five times. He set a new career high with 26 points on January 19. This was in a win against the Detroit Pistons.
Phoenix Suns (2018–2020)
On December 17, 2018, Kelly was traded to the Phoenix Suns. He played his first game for the Suns two days later. He scored 13 points in a win against the Boston Celtics. On January 8, 2019, Kelly matched his career high with 26 points. This was in a win over the Sacramento Kings. Four days later, he again scored 26 points and had 11 rebounds. This helped the Suns beat the Denver Nuggets.
On February 8, he scored 25 points and had 12 rebounds. This was a new career high for rebounds. On February 13, he scored a career-high 28 points. On March 16, he set another career high with 32 points. This was in an overtime win against the New Orleans Pelicans. Kelly had to miss the rest of that season due to a left thumb injury.
On July 16, 2019, Kelly signed a new contract with the Phoenix Suns. On December 5, he grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds. He also scored 14 points. This helped the Suns win in overtime against the New Orleans Pelicans. He matched his career high for rebounds again on December 28. On January 12, 2020, he matched his career high of 15 rebounds for a third time. On February 7, Kelly scored a career-high 39 points. This was in a big win against the Houston Rockets. Kelly later had a knee injury and needed surgery.
Golden State Warriors (2020–2021)
On November 16, 2020, Kelly was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder. A few days later, on November 22, he was traded again to the Golden State Warriors. On December 22, 2020, Kelly played his first game for the Warriors. He scored six points and had seven rebounds. On February 4, 2021, Kelly scored a career-high 40 points. This helped the Warriors win against the Dallas Mavericks.
Charlotte Hornets (2021–2023)
Kelly signed a two-year contract with the Charlotte Hornets on August 7, 2021. On October 20, he played his first game for the Hornets. He scored 14 points in a win against the Indiana Pacers. On January 26, 2022, Kelly scored a season-high 39 points. He also made a career-high 10 three-pointers. This was in a big win against the Indiana Pacers.
On November 18, 2022, Kelly scored a season-high 34 points. This was in an overtime game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. On December 29, he hurt his left hand. On January 5, 2023, Kelly had surgery on his hand. He returned to play on February 24.
Philadelphia 76ers (2023–present)
On September 26, 2023, Kelly signed a contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. On November 11, Kelly was involved in a car accident while walking. He suffered a broken rib and other injuries. He was taken to the hospital and later released. At that time, he was averaging 16.3 points per game. His teammate, Tyrese Maxey, scored 50 points the next day and dedicated it to Kelly. Kelly missed 11 games before returning to play on December 6, 2023.
On March 29, 2024, Kelly received a penalty for arguing with a referee. On July 15, 2024, he signed another contract with the Sixers. On December 30, 2024, Kelly scored 15 points and had a career-high eight steals. This was in a win against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Personal Life
While playing for the Phoenix Suns, Kelly created a brand called "Valley Boyz." This brand celebrated the community in Arizona and his team. The name started as a hashtag on Instagram. Money from early sales helped his teammate Deandre Ayton. It went to hurricane relief efforts in the Bahamas through UNICEF. Kelly also helped design special "City Edition" jerseys for the Suns.
On November 11, 2023, Kelly was walking in Philadelphia and was hit by a car. He suffered a broken rib and other injuries. He was treated at a hospital and later released. On April 23, 2024, Kelly was involved in another car accident. Luckily, no one was injured in this incident.
