What is Kong: King of the Apes About?
This animated series takes place in the year 2050. The story begins when Kong, a giant ape, is wrongly blamed for causing trouble at a special animal preserve called Alcatraz Island's Natural History and Marine Preserve. Because of this, Kong becomes a wanted fugitive, meaning people are trying to catch him.
However, most people don't know the real truth. An evil genius is actually behind the chaos. This villain plans to scare the whole world using a huge army of powerful robotic dinosaurs! Kong is the only creature strong enough to stop these mechanical monsters and save humanity. To do this, he must team up with three brave kids who know he is innocent and help him fight against the evil plans.
Meet the Characters
Main Heroes and Kong's Friends
- Lucas Remy (voiced by Alessandro Juliani and later Giles Panton): Lucas loves wildlife and animals very much. He is the son of Leo Remy and the twin brother of Richard. Lucas has the strongest connection with Kong. He works with Kong and their friends to stop his brother's bad schemes.
- Kong (voiced by Lee Tockar): When Kong was a baby, he was almost caught by animal hunters. But he escaped and became friends with a young Lucas. Later, when Kong was much bigger, he saved Richard from a fire. Sadly, Richard was not thankful and even tried to blame Kong for the fire. Kong acts a bit like a three-year-old child, but he is very loyal to Lucas and their team. After being framed by Richard, Kong becomes a fugitive. He helps Lucas fight against Richard's evil plans until Richard's wrongdoings are revealed to everyone.
- Doug "Jonesy" Jones (voiced by Viv Leacock): Jonesy is Lucas's best human friend. He is also the team's expert in technology and gadgets.
- Amy Quon (voiced by Shannon Chan-Kent): Amy is an animal doctor and Danny's older sister. She is from a Chinese background. After the first two episodes of season 2, she leaves the team and goes back to China.
- Danny Quon (voiced by Vincent Tong): Danny is good at talking to animals and is one of Kong's best friends. He is also from a Chinese background.
- Anita (voiced by Tabitha St. Germain): Anita is the Spanish housekeeper for the Remy family. She was the nanny for Lucas and Richard when they were little, and later for Kong. She loves them all like her own children. Even when they grow up, she cares deeply for them, including Richard, even though she is sad about his bad choices. Franciska is her grandniece.
- Chatter (voiced by Alessandro Juliani, later Vincent Tong): Chatter is a scarlet macaw parrot owned by Anita. He is known as the world's first bionic bird. This is because Leo Remy "saved" his life by giving him a bionic, or robotic, wing to replace his damaged one.
- Franciska (voiced by Tabitha St. Germain): Franciska, also called Panchi, is Anita's grandniece. She joined the team after they rescued her from a giant anaconda. She is very smart for her age and loves animals, just like Lucas. She looks up to Lucas and wants to work with animals and protect nature.
Other Important Characters
- Dr. Leo Remy (voiced by Lee Tockar): Leo was the father of Lucas and Richard. He clearly preferred Lucas, as he could never get Richard to love nature. Richard was more interested in bionic technology. After an argument, they grew apart. Leo created a special wildlife research center, partly to give Kong a home. When he passed away, he left this center, which fans called "Kong Island," to his sons.
- Lucky Liger: Lucky is a baby liger, which is a mix between a lion and a tiger. He is the son of Lady. Lucky lives with the team and is a beloved friend of Kong.
- Lady Liger: Lady was Lucky's mother. She died from injuries after a robot attack and a lot of stress. Richard later made three bionic clones of her. However, these clones were rescued and sent to live freely in the wild. Even though they are clones, they share the same loving bond with Lucky as the original Lady did.
- Decker (voiced by Lee Tockar): Decker is the police commissioner. He and his police officers chase Kong, Lucas, and their friends. They wrongly think they are criminals because Richard tricked them. After Richard's bad actions are revealed, Decker says sorry to Kong and his friends.
- Zippi (voiced by Kathleen Barr): Zippi is a baby dinosaur.
- Apex (voiced by Samuel Vincent): Apex is the leader of a group of apes.
- Mummo (voiced by Kathleen Barr): Mummo is the cook for the apes. She becomes friends with Anita, who is also a cook.
The Bad Guys
- Richard Remy (voiced by Samuel Vincent): Richard is Lucas's evil twin brother, born 20 minutes after Lucas. He is Leo's son. Since he was a child, he has always disliked nature and Kong. He was so obsessed with bionics that he even turned himself into the world's first "bionoman." When he was a kid, his careless use of his father's laser equipment almost caused him to die in a fire. Luckily, Kong saved his life. But Richard's eye was hurt and had to be replaced with a bionic one. He tried to blame Kong for the fire to get rid of him. However, everyone saw through his trick. When they defended Kong for saving him, Richard showed no thanks. When they refused his demand to get rid of Kong, he chose to leave his father and brother to live with his mother. As an adult, Richard is the opposite of his brother, especially in how he acts. After his father dies, Richard tries to take control of Kong Island. When Lucas gets in the way of Richard's bionic research, he frames Kong to turn public opinion against him. This makes Kong and Lucas fugitives. They work to stop Richard's bad plans. At the end of season one, he is found out to be a wrongdoer and is even betrayed by Botila. He plans his revenge before being caught in the series finale.
- Botila (voiced by Kathleen Barr): Botila is a bionic female robot and Richard's personal helper. She usually acts like a robot, but after Richard treats her badly for a long time, she turns against him. They later make an uneasy agreement and continue to plot against Kong. In the season one finale, Botila finally betrays Richard and takes control of his Bionobots. She declares herself "Empress Botila" of the AI Liberation Front. Her bad treatment of her own robot army eventually makes them turn against her, and she is put away in the finale.
- Richie: Richie was Richard's very first robot creation. He later becomes Botila's servant before changing and starting a new life.
- Brag and Wheeler: These two were animal hunters who tried to catch Kong when he was a baby. They were not in season 2.
- Bionobots: The Bionobots are robots created by Richard and serve as his personal army. Because he loves dinosaurs, all his robots are designed to look like different kinds of dinosaurs. After Botila's betrayal, they become part of her AI Liberation Front. Some "Frankenbots" were created by Botila as a security measure on Kong Island. Richard later reprogrammed them for his revenge.
- Bionobotic tyrannosaurus
- Bionobotic triceratops
- Bionobotic pteranodons
- Bionobotic squid
- Bionobotic megalodon
- Botila clones (voiced by Kathleen Barr): Three copies of Botila who work for her. They later turn against Botila and help stop her and Richard.
- Bionobot Richard
- A mind-controlled anaconda, which seems to be as big as a titanoboa (a very large, extinct snake).
