Kori Udovički (born December 4, 1961) is a Serbian former politician. She has held several important roles in the Serbian government. She was also part of the United Nations, working to help countries develop.
Kori Udovički is an economist. She has worked to improve economic research and education in Southeast Europe. She was also the editor of a publication that looked at economic trends in Serbia.
Kori Udovički's Life and Family
Kori Udovički was born in La Paz, Bolivia. Her father was Serbian, and her mother was Bolivian. She is married and has three children.
Her uncle, Gonzalo Sánchez de Lozada, was a former President of Bolivia. Her father, Lazar Udovički, was a politician in Yugoslavia. He was also an ambassador and fought in the Spanish Civil War. Kori's sister, Lenka Udovički, is married to the actor Rade Šerbedžija.
Education and Career in Government
Kori Udovički studied at the University of Belgrade in Serbia. She earned her first degree in economics there in 1984. Later, she went to Yale University in the United States. She received her master's degree in 1988 and her PhD in economics in 1999 from Yale.
From 1993 to 2001, she worked for the IMF in Washington, D.C. The IMF is an organization that helps countries with their money and economies.
After that, she returned to Serbia. She became a special advisor to the Serbian Minister of Finance. In 2002, she became the Minister of Mining and Energy in the Serbian Government. This role involved managing resources like electricity and fuel.
In 2003, Kori Udovički was chosen to be the Governor of the National Bank of Serbia. This is a very important job, as the Governor helps manage the country's money and banking system. She held this position until February 2004. Her appointment was later ended because of a rule about how votes were cast in parliament.
From 2007 to 2012, Kori Udovički worked for the UNDP. She was an Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations. She also directed the UNDP's work for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States. This role involved helping these regions with their development projects.
Later, from 2014 to 2016, she served as the Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia. At the same time, she was also the Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government. In these roles, she helped manage how the government works and how local towns and cities are run.
