Krista's Music and TV Career
Starting Out: Daisy Jack and The Voice
Krista Siegfrids began her music journey in 2009. She started a band called Daisy Jack. Their first song was "Perfect Crime", released in October 2011. Krista also performed in musicals. Her first big role was in Play Me (2009–2010) at the Swedish Theatre in Helsinki.
Next, she was in the rock musical Muskettisoturit (The Three Musketeers, 2011). This show was at the Peacock Theatre in Helsinki. Krista also joined the first season of The Voice of Finland (2011–2012). She made it to the semifinals of the show.
Eurovision and First Album Ding Dong!
In 2013, Krista Siegfrids took part in Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2013. This show picks Finland's song for the Eurovision Song Contest. Her song was "Marry Me". Krista, who was 27 at the time, won the contest. Both the public and the judges gave her the most votes. This meant she would represent Finland in Malmö, Sweden.
During her performance, she shared a kiss with one of her female dancers. Krista said this was part of the show. She wanted to show her support for same-sex marriage in Finland. On May 16, her song made it to the Eurovision final. The final took place on May 18. Finland finished 24th out of 26 countries with 13 points.
Some TV channels in other countries had issues with the kiss. Turkey's TRT channel decided not to broadcast the contest. China's broadcast of Eurovision in October 2013 showed Krista's performance but removed the kiss. This was due to their TV rules.
Krista's first album, Ding Dong!, was released on May 10, 2013. Later that year, she was a guest on Big Brother's Bit on the Side. This is a show related to the British Big Brother. She also represented Finland at the Sopot International Song Festival in Poland. She performed "Marry Me" there on August 23, 2013. In 2015, Krista was the spokesperson for Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015. She announced Finland's top score of twelve points to Sweden's Måns Zelmerlöw for his song "Heroes". Sweden then won the contest.
