Kye Palmer, born on November 10, 1962, is a talented American trumpet player. He is known for being a studio musician in Los Angeles. From 2006 to 2009, he was a member of The Tonight Show Band. He joined the band on April 10, 2006, taking the place of Lee Thornburg. Kye Palmer has played on many music projects that have won or been nominated for Grammy Awards.

Kye Palmer's Early Life and Music Journey

Kye Palmer grew up in Redlands, California. He became interested in music when he was just 7 years old. A big inspiration for him was attending the famous Stan Kenton Band Clinics. These clinics were held at the University of Redlands.

College and Early Career

After high school, Kye first studied music at California State University, Long Beach. He then moved to Fullerton College. There, he played trumpet on an album called Time Tripping. This album won an award from Down Beat magazine.

After two years at Fullerton College, he earned a degree in engineering. This was from Cal Poly Pomona. While working as a trumpet player, he also worked at Honeywell Corporation. He checked wire plans for products made for the U.S. Department of Defense. Kye also took private lessons from famous musicians. These included trumpeter Bobby Shew and jazz vibraphonist Charlie Shoemake. Charlie Shoemake said Kye was one of his most important students. Kye Palmer says his main influences are Clifford Brown and Freddie Hubbard.

Kye Palmer's Professional Music Career

Trumpeter Bobby Shew helped Kye Palmer get his start. Kye toured with the Woody Herman Orchestra from 1988 to 1990. Today, Kye plays and records with the Chris Walden Big Band. He also performs with Bill Cunliffe's "Imaginacion" and other groups in Los Angeles.

Working with Famous Artists

Kye Palmer has performed and recorded with many well-known artists. These include LeAnn Rimes, Bob Dylan, and Tony Bennett. He has also played with Joe Williams and Diane Schuur. Kye has toured Japan with the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra. He also toured with the Poncho Sanchez Latin jazz band.

TV Shows and Movies

You might have seen Kye Palmer on TV shows like The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Night with David Letterman. He has also appeared on Good Morning America and the Today Show. Kye's trumpet playing can be heard on the cartoon Family Guy.

Kye Palmer played on the Brian Setzer Orchestra's Grammy-winning song "Caravan". He also played on their albums Vavoom! and Boogie Woogie Christmas. These albums were nominated for Grammys. He was also part of the gold-certified Setzer CD Best of The Big Band. In 2005, he recorded on the Grammy-nominated album It's Time (Michael Bublé album). He also recorded with other trumpeters on The Clifford Brown Project in 2003.

Kye Palmer continues to teach trumpet. He is an adjunct professor at California State University, Fullerton.
