Kye Palmer (born November 10, 1962) is an American trumpet player. He is a well-known studio musician in Los Angeles. From 2006 to 2009, he was a member of The Tonight Show Band. This band played on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Kye has worked on many music projects. Several of these projects have won or been nominated for Grammy Awards.

Kye's Early Life and Learning
Kye Palmer grew up in Redlands, California. He became interested in music when he was just 7 years old. A big inspiration for him was attending the famous Stan Kenton Band Clinics. These clinics were held at the University of Redlands.
After high school, Kye studied music at California State University, Long Beach. He then transferred to Fullerton College. There, he played trumpet in the college jazz groups. He even played on an album called Time Tripping. This album won a Down Beat award.
Later, Kye earned a degree in engineering from Cal Poly Pomona. While studying, he also worked as a trumpet player. He learned from great musicians like Bobby Shew and Charlie Shoemake. Charlie Shoemake said Kye was one of his most important students. Kye says Clifford Brown and Freddie Hubbard are his main influences.
Kye's Music Career
Kye Palmer got his first big break from trumpeter Bobby Shew. Kye toured with the Woody Herman Orchestra from 1988 to 1990. Today, Kye performs and records with many groups. These include the Chris Walden Big Band and Bill Cunliffe's "Imaginacion."
He has also performed and recorded with many famous artists. Some of these include LeAnn Rimes, Bob Dylan, Tony Bennett, and Michael Bublé. Kye has toured Japan with the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra. He also played with the Poncho Sanchez Latin jazz band.
You might have seen Kye on TV shows. He has appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Night with David Letterman. He has also been on Good Morning America and the Today Show. Kye's music has even been featured on Family Guy.
Music for Movies
Kye has recorded music for many major movie soundtracks. Some of these films include The Secret Life of Pets, Crazy Rich Asians, and Selma. He also played on the soundtrack for Jersey Boys. You can hear his trumpet in Gangster Squad and Me, Myself & Irene. Kye also appeared in the 2011 film J. Edgar and played on its soundtrack.
Grammy Award-Winning Work
Kye played on the Brian Setzer Orchestra's recording of "Caravan." This song won a Grammy Award. He also played on their albums Vavoom! and Boogie Woogie Christmas. These albums were nominated for Grammys. He also recorded on Michael Bublé's album It's Time in 2005. This album was nominated for a Grammy and sold many copies.
Kye continues to teach trumpet today. He is a professor at California State University, Fullerton.
