Kyle Anderson: The Darts Star
Kyle Anderson started playing darts when he was just six years old. By the time he was nine, he was already competing in tournaments! He got interested in darts by watching his dad play. Kyle was an Aboriginal man from the Noongar people. He was very proud of his heritage, which is why his nickname was "The Original."
Becoming a Professional Player
Kyle qualified for his first big event, the 2013 PDC World Darts Championship, by winning the Oceanic Masters. He lost his first match there, but he didn't give up. In 2013, he won seven events in the DPA Australian Grand Prix season. This helped him get into the 2013 Sydney Darts Masters and the 2014 PDC World Darts Championship.
Making History with a Nine-Dart Finish
At the 2014 World Championship, Kyle made history! He threw a nine-dart finish against Ian White. This is super rare in darts, like a perfect game in baseball. It was only the seventh time it had happened in that tournament's history. Even though he lost the match, his amazing throw showed everyone how talented he was. Kyle hoped his performance would help make darts more popular in Australia.
Moving to the UK and Big Wins
In 2014, Kyle earned a special "tour card" that let him play in more PDC events. He decided to move from Australia to Nottingham, England, to play darts full-time.
- In April 2014, he reached the semi-finals of a PDC event for the first time.
- At the 2014 Sydney Darts Masters, he made a huge comeback from 3-0 down to beat Raymond van Barneveld. He then beat fellow Australian Simon Whitlock to reach the semi-finals.
