La Verrerie is a town, also known as a municipality, in Switzerland. It is located in the Fribourg region, specifically in the Veveyse district. This town was created on January 1, 2004. It was formed when three smaller towns – Le Crêt, Grattavache, and Progens – joined together. The main office for La Verrerie is in Le Crêt.

Geography of La Verrerie

La Verrerie covers an area of about 13.42 square kilometers. This is about 5.18 square miles. Most of this land, about 78.2%, is used for farming. This means there are many fields and pastures for animals. About 14.7% of the land is covered by forests.

A smaller part, about 6.6%, is used for buildings and roads. This includes homes and other structures. A very small amount, 0.3%, is rivers or lakes. The rest, 0.5%, is land that cannot be used for farming or building. Most of the water in the town comes from flowing rivers.

Population and People

La Verrerie has a population of 1,301 people (as of December 2020). In 2008, about 9.4% of the people living there were foreign nationals. This means they were not Swiss citizens. Over ten years, from 2000 to 2010, the population grew by 22.5%. About 14.7% of this growth was from people moving into the town. The rest, 6.9%, was from more births than deaths.

Most people in La Verrerie speak French as their main language. In 2000, about 95.2% of the population spoke French. Portuguese was the second most common language, spoken by 1.6% of people. German was third, spoken by 1.0%.

In 2008, the population was almost evenly split between males and females. About 50.1% were male and 49.9% were female. Most of the people were Swiss citizens. In 2000, children and teenagers (0–19 years old) made up 28% of the population. Adults (20–64 years old) made up 59.5%. Seniors (over 64 years old) made up 12.5%.
