Mark Ian Hoyle (born 12 April 1987), known as LadBaby, is a popular English YouTuber, musician, and blogger. He creates videos about his life as a dad, often with his wife, Roxanne. They became famous for getting the Christmas Number One song in the UK Singles Chart for five years in a row, from 2018 to 2022. This is a record for any artist!

Their songs are fun, novelty tunes about sausage rolls. These include "We Built This City", "I Love Sausage Rolls", "Don't Stop Me Eatin'", "Sausage Rolls for Everyone" and "Food Aid". They made history by getting five Christmas No. 1 hits, beating the Beatles' record of four. All the money raised from these songs goes to The Trussell Trust, a charity that helps people in need by providing food banks.

LadBaby's Journey

Early Life and Family

Mark Ian Hoyle was born in Nottingham, England, on 12 April 1987. He married Roxanne Messenger in May 2015 in Las Vegas. They live in Nottingham with their two sons, Phoenix Forest (born 2016) and Kobe Notts (born 2018). The names "Forest" and "Notts" are nods to their hometown.

When Roxanne was expecting their first son, Mark started a blog called "LadBaby". He chose this name because he was a "lad" (a common term for a young man in the UK) and was "having a baby". He used the blog to share his daily experiences as a new parent.

Becoming a Social Media Star

LadBaby's YouTube channel, Facebook page, and Instagram account have millions of followers. Their videos are mostly vlogs where Mark shows clever life hacks. These hacks often help him save money on things parents need.

For example, in June 2017, one of his videos went viral. In it, he bought a toolbox from a hardware store and turned it into a lunchbox for his son. Other creative ideas included a baby walker made from pipes and a baby gate made from half a door. The Hoyles are also known for their catchphrase, "yes, mate!"

In October 2018, they started another YouTube channel called LadBaby & Sons. On this channel, their sons are more involved. They often test toys and do kid-friendly challenges.

Christmas Charity Songs

LadBaby became famous for their Christmas charity singles. They donate all the money from these songs to The Trussell Trust. This charity supports food banks across the UK, helping people who are struggling to afford food.

First Christmas Number One: 2018

On 14 December 2018, LadBaby released their first charity song. It was a funny version of Starship's 1985 song "We Built This City". They changed the words to be about sausage rolls, with the chorus becoming "We Built This City on Sausage Rolls".

The song went straight to number one on the UK Singles Chart. It beat popular songs by Ava Max and Ariana Grande to become the 2018 Christmas number one. This made LadBaby the first British YouTubers to ever have a number one hit.

Second Christmas Number One: 2019

On 13 December 2019, they released "I Love Sausage Rolls". This was a parody of Alan Merrill's "I Love Rock 'n' Roll". The cover art for the single looked like the famous Abbey Road album cover.

This song also became the Christmas number one, beating artists like Stormzy and Lewis Capaldi. LadBaby was the third act to have two Christmas number ones in a row. They were also the first to have two funny Christmas number ones in a row in the UK.

Third Christmas Number One: 2020

On 13 December 2020, LadBaby announced their next Christmas single, "Don't Stop Me Eatin'". This song was a parody of "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey. Like their other songs, it was all about sausage rolls and raised money for The Trussell Trust. The single's artwork was a funny version of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody album cover.

They even released a special version of "Don't Stop Me Eatin'" with singer Ronan Keating. On 25 December 2020, it was announced that the song was the Christmas number one for 2020. It sold 158,000 copies, mostly from downloads and CDs. This made it the fastest-selling single in the UK since 2017. LadBaby became only the third act to get three Christmas number ones in a row.

Fourth Christmas Number One: 2021

In December 2021, LadBaby aimed for their fourth Christmas No. 1. They released "Sausage Rolls For Everyone", which featured famous singers Elton John and Ed Sheeran. This song was based on Elton and Ed's 2021 hit, "Merry Christmas".

An acoustic version of "Sausage Rolls For Everyone" was also released. It featured The Food Bank Choir, which included people who had been helped by food banks. On 24 December 2021, LadBaby secured their fourth Christmas No. 1 in a row.

Fifth Christmas Number One: 2022

On 23 December 2022, "Food Aid" became LadBaby's fifth consecutive Christmas No. 1. They also released a version of "Food Aid" with Bents Green School.

LadBaby decided not to release a Christmas single for 2023 or 2024.

Other Projects

Books and Partnerships

In November 2019, Mark and Roxanne published a book called Parenting for £1: ...And Other Baby Budget Hacks. It shared their tips for saving money as parents.

In October 2020, they teamed up with Walkers to create special sausage roll-flavoured crisps. Five pence from each pack went to The Trussell Trust. They also filmed a Walkers Christmas advertisement.

In 2021, Roxanne launched a clothing line with In the Style, mainly for mothers. In September 2021, the couple announced they had written a children's book, Greg the Sausage Roll: Santa's Little Helper. They worked with Puffin Books, WHSmith, and the National Literacy Trust to give a book to a child in need for every book pre-ordered or bought from WHSmith. They also shared that they both have dyslexia.

They have released more "Greg the Sausage Roll" books, including Greg the Sausage Roll: The Perfect Present (2022), Greg the Sausage Roll: Wish You Were Here (2023), and Greg the Sausage Roll: 12 Days of Christmas (2023). In 2024, they released Greg the Sausage Roll: Egg-cellent Easter Adventure and Greg the Sausage Roll: Lunchbox Superhero.
