The Lake of Bays River is a cool river located in a part of Ontario, Canada, called the Kenora District. It's in the northwestern area of Ontario. This river is part of a huge system of waterways that eventually flows into Hudson Bay. It's also a smaller river that joins a bigger one, the Sturgeon River, on its left side.

The Lake of Bays River

Where the River Flows

The Lake of Bays River starts its journey at a small, unnamed lake. This lake is found just west of Ontario Highway 599. It is also close to the border with the Thunder Bay District.

From its start, the river flows north, then turns west. It passes through several lakes along its way. These lakes include Rome Lake, Gibraltar Lake, Malta Lake, and Handcuff Lake. Eventually, it reaches a larger body of water called the Lake of Bays.

At the Lake of Bays, two other rivers join the Lake of Bays River. These are the Dominion River and the Bays River. They both flow into the Lake of Bays River from its left side. After this, the river continues its journey north. It finally reaches its end, or mouth, at Conver Lake. Here, it flows into the Sturgeon River.

Journey to Hudson Bay

The Sturgeon River, which the Lake of Bays River joins, is part of a much larger water system. The Sturgeon River flows into the Marchington River. The Marchington River then joins the English River. After that, the English River flows into the Winnipeg River. Finally, the Winnipeg River connects to the Nelson River. The Nelson River is a very long river that carries all this water all the way to Hudson Bay. So, the water from the Lake of Bays River eventually makes its way to the vast Hudson Bay!

Rivers Joining In

  • The Lake of Bays River has a few smaller rivers that join it along its path. These are called tributaries.
    • When the Lake of Bays River reaches the Lake of Bays, two rivers add their water to it:
      • Dominion River (joins from the left side)
      • Bays River (joins from the left side)
