The Marchington River is a cool river in Canada. It flows through the Ontario province, in the northwestern part. This river is part of the huge Hudson Bay drainage basin. A drainage basin is like a giant funnel. It collects all the water from rain and snow over a large area. Then it channels that water into one main river or lake.

The Marchington River starts at Kashaweogama Lake. This lake is in the Thunder Bay District. From there, the river flows about 78 kilometres (48 mi) through several lakes. It eventually reaches Marchington Lake.

At Marchington Lake, two other rivers join it. These are the Sturgeon River and the North River. After this, the Marchington River continues for another 30 kilometres (19 mi). It flows over the small McDougall Falls. Then it goes through Botsford Lake. Finally, it empties into Abram Lake. This lake is close to a town called Sioux Lookout. Abram Lake is part of the English River system.

River Crossings

The Marchington River has a few important crossings. These crossings help people and trains get around.

Highway 516 Crossing

Highway 516 crosses the river. This crossing is about 6.5 km (4.0 mi) north of Marchington Lake. It helps connect different communities.

Superior Junction Crossings

Near a place called Superior Junction, there are two more crossings. Highway 642 crosses the river here. It is about 4 km (2.5 mi) upstream from where the river ends. Also, the CN transcontinental rail line crosses the river. This train track is about 2 km (1.2 mi) upstream from the river's mouth.

Rivers Joining the Marchington

Many smaller rivers and creeks flow into the Marchington River. These are called tributaries. They add water to the main river.
