North Rivers of Ontario
In Ontario, Canada, you can find five different rivers called "North River." Each one is unique and flows through different parts of the province.
North River in Kenora District
This North River is located in the Kenora District of Ontario. It's part of a very large area called the Hudson Bay drainage basin. A drainage basin is like a giant bowl where all the rain and melted snow eventually flow into one main river or lake. This particular North River flows into Marchington Lake. From there, its waters join the Marchington River near a small place called Ghost River.
North Rivers in Nipissing District
The Nipissing District is home to two rivers named North River.
North River flowing to Petawawa River
One of these North Rivers is found in the Ottawa River and Saint Lawrence River drainage basins. This means its waters eventually make their way to the mighty Ottawa River, and then to the even larger Saint Lawrence River, which flows out to the Atlantic Ocean. This North River flows into Radiant Lake, which is part of the Petawawa River. You can find it within the beautiful Algonquin Provincial Park, close to the settlement of Radiant.
North River flowing to Mattawa River
The second North River in Nipissing District is also part of the Ottawa River and Saint Lawrence River drainage basins. In French, it's known as Rivière du Nord. This river flows into the Mattawa River. It joins the Mattawa River just before it reaches Lake Talon.
North River in Peterborough County
This North River is located in Peterborough County. Its waters are part of the Lake Ontario drainage basin, meaning they eventually flow into Lake Ontario. This river flows into a specific area of Belmont Lake called North River Bay. Belmont Lake is part of the Crowe River system.
North River in Simcoe County
In Simcoe County, you'll find another North River. This one is part of the Lake Huron drainage basin. It starts from Bass Lake, which is west of the city of Orillia. The river then flows into the Coldwater River. It joins the Coldwater River just before that river empties into Matchedash Bay, which is on Severn Sound, a part of Georgian Bay.
North River in Thunder Bay District
Finally, there's a North River in the Thunder Bay District. This river is a "tributary" of the Whitefish River. A tributary is a smaller stream or river that flows into a larger one. So, the North River adds its waters to the Whitefish River.
