Mayor-Council Government
Lakewood Village uses a mayor–council system. This means the town has a mayor and a council who make decisions. Residents vote for six people to be on the Town Council, and one of them is the mayor.
- Council members are elected to serve for two years.

History of Lakewood Village
Lakewood Village officially became a town on April 26, 1977. It is special because it is a peninsula in Lewisville Lake. This means water surrounds it on three sides.
From Resort to Hometown
When it was first planned, Lakewood Village was meant to be a vacation spot. It had a golf course, two small runways for planes, and a tennis court. Over time, it changed. Now, it is a calm and peaceful lakeside community where people live all year round.
Town Growth and Zoning
For a long time, until 2021, the town was only for homes. This is called being "zoned entirely residential." In 2021, the town added more land on the north side of Eldorado Parkway. This new area included a few small businesses.
Dark Sky Community
In 2019, Lakewood Village received a special award. The International Dark-Sky Association named it an International Dark Sky Community. This means the town works to keep its night skies dark. It helps people see stars better and protects wildlife. Lakewood Village was the 23rd place in the world to get this award.

Lakewood Village is located between two major roads: I-35 and the Dallas North Tollway. It is also near the Lewisville Lake toll bridge.
