History of the Silhouette
The Lamborghini Silhouette was first shown to the public at the 1976 Geneva Auto Show. It was designed by a famous company called Bertone.
The Silhouette was based on the earlier Urraco car. However, it had a fresh, new look. It was also the very first Lamborghini to have a targa top roof. This means part of the roof could be removed, giving it an open-air feel. Lamborghini's next sports car, the Jalpa, was also inspired by the Silhouette.
Lamborghini made only 54 Silhouettes in total. Production stopped in 1979. Today, about 31 of these rare cars are still known to exist.
Engine and Performance
The Silhouette was powered by a 2,995.8 cubic centimetres (182.81 cubic inches) Lamborghini V8 engine. This engine was very similar to the one found in the Urraco P300 model. The engine was placed in the middle of the car, which helps with its balance and handling.
The engine was connected to a five-speed manual transmission. This means the driver had to shift gears themselves.
How Fast Could It Go?
The Silhouette's engine produced 268.9 metric horsepower (198 kilowatts; 265 brake horsepower) of power. This helped the car go from 0 to 60 miles per hour (0.0 to 96.6 kilometres per hour) in just 6.5 seconds. It could also reach 0 to 100 mph (0 to 161 km/h) in 16.1 seconds. The top speed of the Lamborghini Silhouette was an impressive 260 kilometres per hour (162 miles per hour).
