History of the Urraco
The Urraco first appeared at a big car show called the Turin Auto Show in 1970. A super talented designer named Marcello Gandini created its look. The Urraco was a special kind of car called a 2+2 coupé. This means it had two main seats in the front and two smaller seats in the back, plus a sleek, sporty roof.
Lamborghini made the Urraco to be a rival for other cool sports cars. It was designed to compete with cars like the Ferrari Dino and the Maserati Merak.
Production of the Urraco stopped in 1979. By then, 791 Urraco cars had been built. A small number of these, 21 cars, were called Urraco P111s. These were made especially for the American market. To follow American rules, these cars had bigger front bumpers. Their engines were also slightly adjusted to meet the regulations.
Other versions of the Urraco were named P200, P250, and P300. The number in the name tells you the size of the engine. The Urraco could have a 2-liter, a 2.5-liter, or a 3-liter V8 engine. Both the Lamborghini Silhouette and the Lamborghini Jalpa were later built using ideas from the Urraco.
Engine and How It Drives
The Urraco had a powerful V8 engine. Depending on the model, the engine could be 1994 cc, 2463 cc, or 2996 cc in size. This engine was placed in the middle of the car, just like in the famous Miura. This is called a mid-mounted engine. It helps the car handle better.
The engine was connected to a five-speed manual transmission. This means the driver had to shift gears themselves. The engine's power was sent to the rear wheels, making it a rear-wheel-drive car.
How Fast Could It Go?
The Urraco's speed and acceleration changed depending on which model it was.
- The Urraco P200 had about 182 horsepower. It could go from 0 to 60 miles per hour (0 to 97 kilometres per hour) in 7.2 seconds. Its top speed was about 215 kilometres per hour (134 miles per hour).
- The Urraco P250 had about 220 horsepower. It could reach 60 mph (97 kph) in 6.9 seconds. This model had a top speed of about 240 kilometres per hour (149 miles per hour).
- The Urraco P300 was the fastest. It had about 250 horsepower. It could go from 0 to 60 mph (97 kph) in just 5.6 seconds. The P300's top speed was around 260 kilometres per hour (162 miles per hour).
