Lamoille (sometimes spelled La Moille) is a small community in Minnesota, United States. It's called an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Lamoille is located in Winona County. A stream called Big Trout Creek flows into the mighty Mississippi River right at Lamoille.
Where is Lamoille?
Lamoille is about 9 miles southeast of the city of Winona. You can find it along two important roads, Highway 61 and Highway 14. It's also where these highways meet Winona County Road 7.
A beautiful place called Great River Bluffs State Park is close by. The major highway Interstate 90 is also in the area. Other small communities near Lamoille include Homer and Pickwick.
A Look at Lamoille's Past
Lamoille got its name from a river and a county in Vermont. These places are also called Lamoille. The community started to grow in 1860. It was an important spot because it was where stagecoach routes crossed the Mississippi River.
From 1858 to 1975, Lamoille had its own post office. This means people could send and receive mail right there in the community for many years.
Getting Around Lamoille
The Empire Builder train, run by Amtrak, passes through Lamoille. This train travels between cities like Seattle and Portland and Chicago. However, the train does not stop in Lamoille.
The closest train station for passengers is in Winona. Winona is about 10 miles west of Lamoille.
