Larry played college football for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was later chosen by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2008 NFL draft. Early Life and High School Football
Larry Grant started playing football in high school. He began at Foothill High School in Sacramento, California. There, he played as a running back and a safety (gridiron football position).
He then moved to Georgia and attended Meadowcreek High School. For his senior year, he transferred to Norcross High School. As a tailback, he ran for 450 yards and scored six touchdowns. After that, he moved back to California and graduated from Foothill High School.
College Football Career
Larry Grant played college football at two different schools. He first attended City College of San Francisco. Later, he finished his college career at Ohio State.
Success at City College of San Francisco
In 2005, Larry was named the National Player of the Year for junior colleges (JUCO). He played in two national championship games while at City College. During his time there, he made 175 tackles and had 10 sacks. He also caused seven fumbles and blocked 12 kicks. This set new records for California junior colleges. He was recognized as a top player multiple times.
Playing for the Ohio State Buckeyes
At Ohio State, Grant played in 25 games and started 14 of them. He recorded 69 tackles and 5.5 sacks. He also caused a fumble and blocked three kicks.
In 2007, he started all 13 games for Ohio State. He made 51 tackles and had one interception. He also blocked two kicks that season. In 2006, he played in 12 games and made 18 tackles. He also blocked a punt and intercepted a pass.
Professional Football Journey
Larry Grant was drafted into the NFL in 2008. He was picked by the San Francisco 49ers.
First Time with the San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers selected Grant in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL draft. He was the 214th player chosen overall.
Time with the St. Louis Rams
Later in 2008, Grant joined the St. Louis Rams. He was signed from the 49ers' practice squad. In 2010, he became the starting weakside linebacker for the Rams.
Return to the San Francisco 49ers
Grant rejoined the San Francisco 49ers on July 30, 2011. He started three games as an inside linebacker when another player was injured. That season, he made a career-high 39 tackles.
At the end of the 2012 season, Grant and the 49ers played in Super Bowl XLVII. He played on special teams during the game. However, the 49ers lost to the Baltimore Ravens with a score of 34–31.
Short Stints with Other Teams
Grant signed with the Chicago Bears on October 28, 2013. He was released by the team a few weeks later. He then signed with the Cleveland Browns on May 21, 2014, but was released in June of that year.
Coaching Career
After his playing career, Larry Grant became a football coach. He was the head football coach at Paso Robles High School in California.
