Lebanon is a small town located on the southern edge of Madison County, in New York state, United States. In 2010, about 1,332 people lived there. It is believed that the town was named after Lebanon, Connecticut, where many of its first settlers came from.

History of Lebanon
Settlers first arrived in the area around 1791. The town of Lebanon was officially created in 1807. It was formed from a part of another town called Hamilton. Many of the early people who moved here came from Connecticut.
A man named Erastus Cleveland helped found the town. When people asked what the new town should be called, he said, "Ah, as the cedars of Lebanon." He was thinking of the Bible. This name made many people happy. Especially those who had traveled a long way from Lebanon, Connecticut. They believed he suggested the name to honor them.

The southern border of Lebanon is also the border of Chenango County.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town covers a total area of 43.7 square miles (113 km2). Most of this area, about 43.4 square miles (112 km2), is land. A small part, about 0.2 square miles (0.52 km2) (0.57%), is water.

In the year 2000, a census showed that 1,329 people lived in Lebanon. These people lived in 506 households, and 359 of these were families. The town had about 30.6/sq mi (11.8/km2) people per square mile. There were 631 housing units, which are homes or apartments.
Most people in Lebanon were White (98.65%). A small number were African American (0.08%), Native American (0.45%), or Asian (0.30%). About 1.66% of the people were Hispanic or Latino.
About 35.6% of households had children under 18 living with them. Most households (59.3%) were married couples. About 23.3% of all households were individuals living alone. The average household had 2.63 people, and the average family had 3.09 people.
The population was spread out by age. About 27.5% were under 18 years old. About 12.6% were 65 years or older. The average age in the town was 37 years.

- Campbell – This is a small village located north of Lebanon Center.
- Kenyon Corners – You can find this spot in the northern part of the town.
- Lebanon – This is the main hamlet (small village) of Lebanon. It's in the western part of the town on Route 71. It used to be called "Toad Hollow" and is next to Stone Mill Brook.
- Lebanon Center – This small village is east of the main Lebanon village.
- Lebanon Reservoir – This is a large body of water located near the hamlet of Campbell.
- Middleport – This hamlet is close to the eastern town line and Randallsville.
- Randallsville – This hamlet is in the eastern part of the town on Route 12B. It was once known as Smiths Valley.
- South Lebanon – This hamlet is south of the main Lebanon village on Route 71.
