Lessertia is a small group of spiders. These spiders belong to a larger family called Linyphiidae, which are often known as dwarf spiders. A scientist named F. P. Smith first described this group in 1908.
As of May 2019, there are only two known types, or species, of Lessertia spiders. These are L. barbara and L. dentichelis.
Where Lessertia Spiders Live
These two species of Lessertia spiders can be found in several different parts of the world. They live in countries like Algeria, Canada, Morocco, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, and Turkey.
L. dentichelis is also found in the Canary Islands and Madeira, and has been introduced to Canada and New Zealand. This means it was brought to these places by people, perhaps by accident.
