About Lighthouse Point
Lighthouse Point is located in northeastern Broward County, Florida. It covers about 2.4 square miles (6.2 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, but a small part is water.
The city is next to other towns:
- To its north: Deerfield Beach
- To its east: Hillsboro Beach (across the Intracoastal Waterway)
- To its west and south: Pompano Beach
Lighthouse Point is very popular for boating. This is because many canals were built there in the 1950s and 1960s. These canals created lots of homes right on the water. This makes boating and fishing very popular activities for residents. From the Hillsboro Inlet, boats can even reach the the Bahamas easily. Bimini is only about 40 miles away!

Lighthouse Point Library
The Doreen Gauthier Lighthouse Point Library is an important place for the community. It offers books, digital resources, and programs for people of all ages. The library's goal is to help everyone learn and have fun.
History of the Library
The library started small in 1965. It was just a tiny room in a shopping center. The owner let them use the space for free at first. The library built its collection with donated books and copies from other nearby libraries.
To raise money, they held a fancy "Library Ball" in 1965, which raised over $5,000. This event became a yearly tradition for several years. By 1966, the library had more than 3,000 books. In 1968, it moved into two empty stores in another shopping center. The number of members grew quickly, and so did the number of books borrowed.
In 1972, the City of Lighthouse Point took over running the library. Later, in 1984, the shopping center where the library was located needed more space. The library had to move its books into a large trailer in 1985. Library staff worked from this trailer while the city planned a new building. Finally, in May 1987, the library moved into its current permanent home. It had over 20,000 items and more than 7,000 members by then.
