History of Linda
Linda was first planned as a town in 1850. It was originally named Olivehurst. This first location was on the Yuba River, near Marysville. However, the town only stayed there for two years.
The original town site is now covered by leftover materials from a type of mining called hydraulic mining. This mining method uses strong jets of water to wash away soil and rock.
Later, a sawmill operated in Linda for many years. It was run by Speckert Lumber and Diamond International from 1937 to 1984. Sawmills are places where logs are cut into lumber.
