Linslade is a town in Bedfordshire, England. It is located about one third of the way between the big cities of London and Birmingham. Linslade sits on the Bedfordshire side of the border with Buckinghamshire.
It is right next to the town of Leighton Buzzard. Together, Linslade and Leighton Buzzard form a single local area called the civil parish of Leighton-Linslade. Linslade used to be part of Buckinghamshire. It officially moved to Bedfordshire in 1965. Before that, it was even its own separate local government area.
Linslade also changed its church area, called a diocese. It was part of the Diocese of Oxford until 2008. Then, it joined Leighton Buzzard in the Diocese of St Albans.
Linslade's Story
The very first Anglo-Saxon settlement of Linslade was not where the town is today. That older settlement is further north. It is now a small village called Old Linslade.
How Linslade Grew
The modern town of Linslade grew a lot in the 1840s. This growth happened because of two big building projects. One was the Grand Union Canal, which is a waterway for boats. The other was the London and Birmingham Railway. This railway is now part of the West Coast Main Line, a very important train route. These transport links made Linslade a busy place.
Linslade had another major period of growth in the 1970s. This growth was also connected to the railways. More people moved to the area because of the easy train travel.
Population Facts
