Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Tuskegee Airmen were a brave group of mostly African-American pilots and airmen who fought during World War II. The name "Tuskegee Airmen" also includes all the people who supported them. This means navigators, bombardiers, mechanics, instructors, nurses, cooks, and many others. They were all part of a special program that showed how skilled and courageous these individuals were. In 2006, they were honored with the Congressional Gold Medal for their amazing service.
