List of battles fought in North Dakota facts for kids
This article is about the important fights and conflicts that happened in the area we now call North Dakota. These events took place after people from Europe first arrived. The land was part of different countries over time: first New Spain (from 1535 to 1679), then New France (from 1679 to 1803), and finally the United States of America (from 1803 until today).
The Plains Indian Wars were a big part of this history. These wars happened as more people moved west across America. One major event was the Dakota War of 1862, also called the Sioux Uprising. This war involved the eastern Dakota Native American tribes. Most of the fighting in this war happened in Minnesota, which was their original homeland. After the war, some eastern Dakota tribes were followed into both South Dakota and North Dakota.
