List of battles of the War of the Second Coalition facts for kids
The War of the Second Coalition was a big conflict in Europe that lasted from 1798 or 1799 to 1801 or 1802. It was fought between France and a group of European countries called the Second Coalition. This group included powerful nations like Great Britain, Austria, and Russia.
This list shows the important battles and sieges that happened during this war. A siege is when an army surrounds a city or fort to try and capture it. A battle is a direct fight between armies.
The war involved many different campaigns, or series of military operations, in various parts of the world:
- The French campaign in Egypt and Syria (1799–1801): This was when French forces, led by Napoleon Bonaparte, tried to conquer parts of the Middle East.
- Fights in Italy (1798–1800): Many battles took place in central and northern Italy as France tried to control the region.
- The Anglo-Russian invasion of Holland (1799): British and Russian forces tried to invade the Netherlands.
- Battles in Germany (1800): Important fights happened in southern Germany.
- Other fights in faraway places or even inside Paris.
This list does not include battles from other conflicts happening around the same time, like the Haitian Revolution or the Irish Rebellion of 1798, because they were not directly part of the Second Coalition's main fight against France.
