List of bridges of the Merritt Parkway facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Merritt Parkway in Fairfield County, Connecticut, is famous for its beautiful and unique bridges. There were 69 original bridges, all designed by George L. Dunkelberger. He made sure each bridge looked different, showing off popular building styles from the 1930s.

You can see styles like Art Deco, Art Moderne, French Renaissance, Gothic, Neoclassicism, and Rustic. Some bridges have been rebuilt, and a few original ones were replaced. Because these bridges are so special and artistic, the Merritt Parkway is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It's also documented by the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER), which keeps track of important engineering achievements.

Below, you'll find lists of these amazing bridges. One list shows bridges that go over the Merritt Parkway, and the other shows bridges that the Merritt Parkway goes over other roads or rivers. They are listed from south to north.
