Exploring North Bergen's Neighborhoods

North Bergen has many different neighborhoods, each with its own character. From busy streets to quiet green spaces, these areas help make up the fabric of the town.

Bergenline

Bergenline is a lively street that runs through North Bergen. It's a busy area with shops and activities, stretching all the way to the border with Fairview near North Hudson Park.

Bigleys/Three Ditches

This area is a wetlands region, which means it's a natural space where water covers the land, creating a home for many plants and animals. It's located between the Northeast Corridor (a major railway line) and Secaucus Road.

Racetrack Section

The Racetrack Section is found on a high, flat area called a plateau. This plateau is part of the Hudson Palisades, which are tall cliffs along the Hudson River. This neighborhood is located between Bergenline Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard.

Bergenwood

Bergenwood is situated on the steep slopes of the west side of the Palisades. A "cuesta" is a hill with a gentle slope on one side and a steep slope on the other, which describes the landscape here.

New Durham

New Durham is a historic area. It was once the site of a colonial American inn called Three Pigeons. This neighborhood is near the old Bergen Turnpike and Tonnelle Avenue.

Meadowview

Meadowview is a neighborhood located behind the Municipal Building. It's surrounded by several important cemeteries, including Flower Hill Cemetery, Hoboken Cemetery, and Weehawken Cemetery.

Bulls Ferry

Bulls Ferry is located right on the Hudson River waterfront. This area is home to Roc Harbor, the Palisades Medical Center (a hospital), and a part of the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway, a path along the river.

Babbitt

Babbitt is a neighborhood that grew around the rail station near the North Bergen Yard in the Meadowlands. The Meadowlands are a large wetlands area in northeastern New Jersey.

Woodcliff

Woodcliff is another neighborhood located on the Hudson Palisades. It's centered around North Hudson Park, a large park offering great views and green space.

Transfer Station

The Transfer Station area is unique because it's close to where the borders of Union City and Jersey City meet North Bergen. It's near several important roads like Paterson Plank Road, Kennedy Boulevard, and Secaucus Road.

Schuetzen Park/Columbia Park

Schuetzen Park and Columbia Park are located near Kennedy Boulevard. This is where Hackensack Plank Road changes its name and becomes the Bergen Turnpike, another historic road.
