List of places of worship in Barrow-in-Furness facts for kids
Barrow-in-Furness is a town in England that grew very quickly because of its industries. In the late 1800s, it changed from a small village to a busy town with over 70,000 people! Because so many people moved there, lots of churches and other places of worship were built quickly. Many were first made of wood and then later replaced with stronger buildings.
In 2001, most people in Barrow (about 81%) said they were Christian. A small number (less than 1%) followed other religions, like Muslims or Buddhists. However, these numbers are quite old now. Barrow's population has become more diverse since then.
Today, most places of worship in Barrow are Christian churches. Long ago, in the early 1900s, there were also three Jewish synagogues in the town. Even though there isn't a mosque or synagogue in Barrow itself anymore, there are important Buddhist centers nearby, like the Kadampa Buddhist Temple and Manjushri Mahayana Centre. These are some of the oldest Buddhist centers in the Western world!
