Little Haven (which means Welsh: Hafan Fach in Welsh) is a charming village. It is found in Pembrokeshire, Wales. The village sits at the edge of St Bride's Bay. It is also part of the amazing Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.
Little Haven and its nearby village, Broad Haven, form a community. This community is known as The Havens. In 2001, about 1,328 people lived there.
The famous Pembrokeshire Coast Path goes right through Little Haven. Since 2012, this path has also been part of the Wales Coast Path. When the tide is low, you can walk along the sandy shore. You can walk from Little Haven to Broad Haven. This walk takes you past a larger bay called the Settlands. There is also an Anglican church in Little Haven.
Exploring Little Haven's History
Little Haven has a long and interesting past. For many centuries, people here worked in farming and fishing. Coal mining was also very important. Coal was even loaded onto ships directly from the beach.
In the early 1800s, Little Haven started to change. As mining became less common, the village became a popular seaside resort. Today, many people visit Little Haven for holidays. You can find many holiday homes and three public houses (pubs) in the village.
Little Haven is also a filming location. The Swan Inn, a pub in the village, was used for the Welsh TV show Cara Fi. This romantic comedy first aired in 2014.
The Little Haven Lifeboat Station
As more visitors came to the beaches, safety became very important. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) opened a lifeboat station here. It operated in Little Haven from 1882 to 1921.
The lifeboat station was reopened in 1967. It now uses a smaller, faster inshore lifeboat. Its name was changed to the Little and Broad Haven Lifeboat Station. This station helps keep people safe in the waters around both villages.
