Early Political Career (1998–2011)
Louis Aliot was born in Toulouse, France. His family has French and Algerian Jewish roots. They used to live in Algeria.
Becoming a Regional Councillor
In 1998, Aliot was chosen as a regional councillor for the Midi-Pyrénées region. He represented the Haute-Garonne area for six years.
Working with Party Leaders
He then started working closely with Jean-Marie Le Pen, who was the leader of the National Front party. Aliot played an important part in Le Pen's election campaign in 2002. He was sent to Perpignan to help rebuild the party there.
Leading in Regional Elections
In the 2004 regional elections, Aliot led the National Front's list of candidates in the Midi-Pyrénées. His party received about 11.78% of the votes in the first round. In the second round, they got about 12.06% of the votes. Eight regional councillors from his party were elected. For six years, from 2004 to 2010, he was the leader of the National Front group in the regional council.
Municipal Elections in Perpignan
In the 2008 local elections, Aliot led his party's candidates in Perpignan. They got about 12.29% of the votes in the first round. In the second round, they received about 10.42% of the votes. Two municipal councillors from his party were elected. This was one of the few good results for the National Front party, as they had many losses across France.
In a special local election in 2009, Aliot again led his party's list. However, he lost his municipal seat in the first round. His party received 9.42% of the votes. To be part of the second round in a local election, a list of candidates must get at least 10% of the votes. Since June 2009, the National Front has not had any representatives on the Perpignan city council.
European Parliament Elections
In the 2009 European elections, Aliot led his party's candidates in the South-West France area. He received 5.94% of the votes. He was not elected as a MEP, which is a member of the European Parliament.
