Louise Minchin (born September 8, 1968) is a well-known British television presenter and journalist. She used to be a main news presenter for the BBC.

Louise was a regular host on the popular BBC One show BBC Breakfast. She co-hosted the show three days a week, first with Bill Turnbull and Charlie Stayt, and later with Dan Walker. She announced in June 2021 that she would be leaving BBC Breakfast after 20 years. Her last show was on September 15, 2021.

Before that, from 2009 to 2012, Louise co-hosted Real Rescues with Nick Knowles and Chris Hollins. She has also been a guest host on The One Show many times since 2010.

Early Life and Education

Louise Mary Grayson was born in 1968 in British Hong Kong. Her father was a Major in the Irish Guards, a part of the British Army. She is the oldest of three children.

Louise grew up in Berkshire, England. She went to St Mary's School, Ascot. She earned a degree in Spanish from the University of St Andrews. After that, she studied journalism at the London College of Communication.

A Career in Broadcasting

Louise started her career in journalism at the BBC World Service. She worked in the Latin American section during a year she spent in Argentina. She also worked for the Today programme, Five (a TV channel), and various local radio stations.

In 2006, she traveled around the country in a special bus. This was part of the World Cup coverage for BBC News. She met many England football fans during this time.

Starting at BBC Radio 5 Live

Louise joined Radio 5 Live in 1998. She presented many of the station's main shows, including Drive and Breakfast. From 2003 to 2012, she was a regular presenter on the BBC News Channel. She often worked with Jon Sopel and Emily Maitlis. She also helped out as a main presenter for BBC News at One.

Becoming a BBC Breakfast Host

In 2006 and 2007, Louise filled in as a presenter on BBC Breakfast. From May 2009 to April 2012, she was the regular weekend presenter for the show. In December 2011, the BBC announced that Louise would become a main presenter for BBC Breakfast. She joined Bill Turnbull and Charlie Stayt when the show moved to Salford. Her first show as a main presenter was on April 10, 2012.

On June 8, 2021, Louise announced live on BBC Breakfast that she would be leaving the show later that year. She wanted to focus on other interests. Her final appearance on the show was on September 15, 2021.

Other TV Shows and Appearances

From April 2008, Louise presented a weekday show called Missing Live. She hosted it with Rav Wilding. The show looked for missing people and gave updates on old cases. It ran for several weeks each year until 2010.

In 2008, Louise and Colin Jackson presented Sunday Life on BBC One. She also co-presented Real Rescues with Nick Knowles in 2009.

During the 2004 Athens Olympics, Louise presented In the Know. This was a BBC sports magazine show on Saturday mornings.

In April 2010, Louise co-presented The One Show for a week with Chris Hollins. She also covered for other hosts in July 2010.

Louise and Gethin Jones presented the documentary series Crime and Punishment. It started on BBC One in March 2012.

She has also played herself reading the news in BBC drama series. These include Spooks, Silent Witness, and Torchwood: Children of Earth.

In 2016, Louise competed in Celebrity MasterChef on BBC One. She finished in second place.

In November 2021, Louise was a contestant on I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!. She finished in seventh place.

In January 2025, Louise started co-presenting Rip Off Britain. She took over from Angela Rippon.

Awards and Recognition

In March 2014, Louise received an special degree from the University of Chester. It was an Honorary Doctor of Letters degree.

Personal Life and Hobbies

Louise married David Minchin on June 6, 1998, in Hampshire. They have two daughters. The family used to live in South London. In 2012, they moved to Chester, Cheshire. This move happened when BBC Breakfast relocated to Salford.

Triathlon Enthusiast

Louise is an amateur triathlete. A triathlon is a race that includes swimming, cycling, and running. She qualified for the Great Britain Age-Group Triathlon Team in 2015. She competed in the World Triathlon Championships in Chicago in September 2015. She finished 71st in her age group.

Charity Work

Louise has also taken part in charity events. She participated in "Around the World in 80 days" for Children in Need. This charity helps children across the UK.
