Louise has held important elected jobs in Stockholm, Sweden. She won gold and silver medals in track and field in Sweden. In 2004, she helped start a social media website called ASMALLWORLD with her husband, Erik Wachtmeister. The Wall Street Journal newspaper called it "MySpace for millionaires." By 2008, the website had 320,000 members.
Early Life and Education
Louise Wachtmeister was born as Louise Austern in Sweden. When she was young, she was very interested in politics. She was the leader of the biggest youth group for a political party in Stockholm for four years.
She also took part in two important elections. One of these was about Sweden joining the European Union in 1994. Later, she was elected to positions at the Stockholm City Hall and the Stockholm District Court.
In 2001, Louise finished her master's degree at the Stockholm School of Economics. She studied how to build a strong "brand" for companies. From 2001 to 2002, she worked at a top public relations company in the Nordic region.
Louise was also a talented athlete. She won a silver medal and a gold medal in the 400-meter and 800-meter relay races. These wins were at the Swedish National Track Championships. She competed under her maiden name, Austern.
Starting ASMALLWORLD
In March 2004, Louise Wachtmeister and her husband, Erik Wachtmeister, started a new social networking website called ASMALLWORLD. Louise was the marketing director and head of communications for the company. Erik was the CEO, which means Chief Executive Officer.
This website launched two years before Facebook was open to everyone. The Wall Street Journal newspaper called it "MySpace for millionaires." In September 2007, the site had 150,000 users. Some famous people like Naomi Campbell, Paris Hilton, and Tiger Woods were members.
By May 2008, the number of members grew to 320,000. About 65% of these members were from Europe, and 20% were from the United States. By April 2010, the Wachtmeisters were no longer actively managing the website. At that time, it had more than 500,000 members.
