Lucian Pintilie (born November 9, 1933 – died May 16, 2018) was a famous Romanian director. He directed plays for the theatre, movies, and even operas. He also wrote scripts for his films. His work in theatre, opera, film, and television became known all over the world.

Early Life
Lucian Pintilie was born in 1933 in a place called Tarutina, which was part of Romania back then. Today, this area is in Ukraine.
Theatre Work
Lucian Pintilie spent many years directing plays. From 1960 to 1972, he was a director at the Bulandra Theatre in Bucharest, Romania.

In 1975, he made a film for Yugoslavian television called Ward Six. This movie was based on a famous story by Anton Chekhov. It won an award at the Cannes Film Festival.
