Ludiano was once a municipality in the Blenio district. It is located in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. On March 15, 2011, Ludiano became part of the new municipality called Serravalle.

History of Ludiano

Ancient Times and Early Mentions

In 1926, people found an old grave in Ludiano. This grave contained items from the Iron Age. This shows that people lived in the area a very long time ago.

Ludiano is first mentioned in old writings in the year 1211. Back then, it was called Luguilano. In 1351, it was known as an important place for nearby farms and small villages.

The Church of S. Secondo

The main church in Ludiano is called S. Secondo. It was first mentioned in 1293. The church was rebuilt between 1779 and 1782. However, its old clock tower, built in the Romanesque style, was kept.

How People Lived and Worked

In the past, people in Ludiano mostly earned money from farming. They grew crops, raised animals, and had vineyards. Many people also left Ludiano to work in other European countries. They would send money back home, which helped the village.

In the mid-1800s, fewer people lived in Ludiano because many had moved away. But in the late 1900s, the number of people living there grew again. This led to many new homes being built. By 2000, about half the jobs in Ludiano were in making things. About one-fifth of the jobs were in services. Most people who worked lived in Ludiano but had jobs outside the village.
