Lurine's Early Life
Lurine Cato started singing at just three years old! She was part of the COGIC UK National Convention. She sang in the Sunshine Band, where she learned to sing in harmony and as a solo artist. Lurine is the ninth of eleven children, and she says her mom and sisters were her first music teachers.
When she was eight, Lurine entered the Enfield Borough Talent Competition. She sang "Let's Hear It For The Boy" by Denise Williams and won second place. Her sister told her to try again the next year. This time, she sang “Greatest Love of All” by George Benson. She won first place and a special award called the Aunty G Cup!
Later, in her twenties, Lurine toured with famous groups like the Lighthouse Family and the late Lynden David Hall. She also formed a group called Redeemed with Marie Carter and two other singers. Eventually, it became a duet with just Lurine and Marie. They opened concerts for big gospel artists like Hezekiah Walker and Kirk Franklin in places like the Royal Festival Hall in London.
Lurine's Music Career and Achievements
Lurine Cato has sung backing vocals for many well-known artists. In 2001 and 2002, she toured with Australian pop star Kylie Minogue. She also recorded vocals for Adele's first album, 19, in 2008. The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, invited Lurine to sing at his campaign dinner. She also became the official Vocal Coach for ITV's "Sing It To Win It Competition" in 2018.
Lurine and the B Positive Choir appeared on The One Show on the BBC. They were working to raise awareness about sickle cell disease and the importance of blood donation. Lurine and the B Positive Choir were contestants on Britain's Got Talent 2018. They got 'yes' votes from all four judges after their audition. They made it to the finals, even getting a 'wild card' spot from Simon Cowell. Although they didn't win, they performed their audition song again in the finals.
