Machine Creek is a small rural area, also called a locality, in the Gladstone Region of Queensland, Australia. In 2021, about 131 people lived here.

Where is Machine Creek?

Machine Creek gets its name from a stream, also called Machine Creek, that flows through the south-east part of the area.

The main road, the Bruce Highway, runs along the northern edge of Machine Creek.

There's a small area within Machine Creek called Butchers Corner, located in the south.

You can also find Goat Hill in the south-west. It's a hill that rises about 191 metres (627 feet) above sea level.

Most of the land in Machine Creek is used for grazing, which means raising animals like cattle or sheep on natural grass and plants.

A Look Back in Time

Machine Creek used to have its own school! The Machine Creek State School opened on July 27, 1911. Its first head teacher was Olivia Kettle.

However, the school closed its doors on July 10, 1970, because there weren't enough students attending anymore. The old school building was later moved to the Calliope River Historical Village in River Ranch, where you can still see it today.

The number of people living in Machine Creek has changed a little over the years. In 2016, there were 120 people. By 2021, the population had grown slightly to 131 people.

For primary school, the closest government schools are Ambrose State School in Ambrose (to the north) and Mount Larcom State School in Mount Larcom (to the north-east).
