Machuelo Arriba is a special area, or barrio, in the city of Ponce, Puerto Rico. It's one of 31 barrios in Ponce. This area is known for being a rural, inland part of the municipality. It was first set up way back in 1831.

Where is Machuelo Arriba?
Machuelo Arriba is a countryside area. It is located in the middle part of the Ponce municipality. You can find it just north of the main city limits of Ponce.
What are its boundaries?
Machuelo Arriba has clear boundaries. To the north, it is bordered by hills near Camino El Cedro I Road. To the south, it is next to Tito Castro Avenue, also known as PR-14.
On the west side, it's bordered by PR-504, hills west of PR-505, and the Rio Portugues. To the east, you'll find Pinto Peak and the Río Cerrillos.
When looking at other barrios, Machuelo Arriba is bordered by Maragüez and Monte Llano to the north. To the south, it's next to Machuelo Abajo. On the west, it borders Portugués and Portugués Urbano. Finally, to the east, it's next to Maragüez and Cerrillos.
Communities and population
Several communities are located within Machuelo Arriba. These include La Cuchilla, La Yuca, El Paraiso, and Glenview Gardens. You can also find Quintas de Monserrate, Villa Machuelo, and Santa Teresita here. Jardines de Ponce and Las Monjitas are also part of this barrio.
Machuelo Arriba covers about 6.54 square miles of land. It also has a small amount of water area, about 0.11 square miles. In 2010, about 12,412 people lived in Machuelo Arriba. This means there were about 1,897.9 people living in each square mile.
The main roads that go through Machuelo Arriba are PR-10 in the southern part. PR-505 and PR-139 serve the rest of the barrio.
The highest point in Machuelo Arriba is Pico Pinto. This peak stands tall at 2,037 feet above sea level.
Important natural landmarks
The Río Bucaná is an important river that starts in Machuelo Arriba. It begins as the Rio Bayagan in this barrio. The river then flows for about 29.5 kilometers (or 18.3 miles). It eventually empties into the Caribbean Sea.
