Malcom Maiuu Floyd (born September 8, 1981) is a former American football player. He was a wide receiver for the San Diego Chargers in the National Football League (NFL). Malcom played his entire professional career with the Chargers. He joined them in 2004 and played college football for the Wyoming Cowboys.

Malcom Floyd was born in Sacramento, California. He grew up in West Sacramento, California. He went to River City High School.
High School Achievements
At River City High, Malcom was a star athlete. He was named All-Metro for football. He also earned the Offensive MVP award for his league. Malcom was also a top player in basketball. He was chosen for the First-team all-league in basketball.
College Football Journey
After high school, Malcom attended the University of Wyoming. He studied health sciences there. He played football for the Wyoming Cowboys.
Playing for the Cowboys
In 1999, Malcom took a "redshirt" year, meaning he practiced but did not play in games. This allowed him to train and get stronger. As a sophomore, he was named a First-team all-conference player by Football News and Sporting News. Malcom finished his college career with 186 catches. He gained 2,411 yards and scored 14 touchdowns. He was also recognized as an Honorable mention All-Mountain West Conference player in his senior year.
Malcom Floyd's NFL Career
Malcom Floyd was not invited to the NFL Scouting Combine in 2004. This is a special event where college players show off their skills to NFL teams. However, the San Diego Chargers still signed him. He joined them as an undrafted free agent after the 2004 NFL draft.
Starting Out in the NFL
In 2004, Malcom signed with the Chargers. He was first on the practice squad. Later that year, he joined the main team. In January 2005, Malcom started a game against the Kansas City Chiefs. He caught his first NFL touchdown pass in that game. It was a 13-yard pass from Philip Rivers, who also threw his first career touchdown to Malcom.
Key Moments and Achievements
Malcom continued to play for the Chargers. In 2006, he caught a 31-yard touchdown pass against the Baltimore Ravens. He also had a career-long 46-yard touchdown catch against the Cincinnati Bengals. In that game, he had his first 100-yard receiving game. He made five catches for 109 yards and a touchdown.
In 2009, Malcom became a main starting receiver for the Chargers. He played in all 16 games that season. He had 45 catches for 776 yards. In 2010, he signed a new contract. He averaged 19.4 yards per catch, showing he was great at catching long passes.
Overcoming Injuries
Malcom faced some injuries during his career. In 2011, he missed four games but still had a career-high 856 receiving yards. He averaged 19.9 yards per catch that year. This was one of the highest averages in Chargers history for players with many catches. A remarkable fact from 2011 is that 41 of his 43 catches resulted in first downs. In 2012, Malcom was on track for a 1,000-yard season. However, an ankle injury cut his season short by two games. He still led the team with 56 catches and scored five touchdowns. Return and Retirement

Malcom Floyd has an older brother named Malcolm. His brother also played wide receiver in the NFL for the Houston Oilers. Malcom's older brother was allowed to name him. Their father added a small spelling difference to Malcom's name.
A Mother's Dedication
Malcom's mother, Leataata, lived in Sacramento. She was a dedicated volunteer. She worked as a mentor, tutor, counselor, and ambassador. She also taught Polynesian dancing after school. She spent a lot of time at one of the city's poorest schools. In 2012, the Sacramento School District honored her. They changed the name of Jedediah Smith Elementary to Leataata Floyd Elementary. This was to recognize her amazing contributions.
Hobbies and Family
Malcom and his wife, Daphne, have two sons, Maiu and Malc. In his free time, Malcom enjoys playing basketball. He also likes bodyboarding at Mission Beach. Spending time grilling outdoors with his family is another favorite activity. Malcom was an all-conference basketball player in high school. His team even won the intramural championship while he was in college at Wyoming.
