Mapleton's Past: A Quick Look

The area where Mapleton now stands was first settled in 1850. For a while, it was known as Union Bench. The community began as a farming area connected to Springville.

Later, people in Mapleton and Springville had disagreements, especially about water rights. This led Mapleton to become its own town in 1901. It officially became a city in 1948.

Mapleton covers an area of about 32.6 square kilometers (13.35 square miles). All of this area is land. The city sits about 4,700 feet (1,433 meters) above sea level.

Two large mountains are near Mapleton. To the southeast is Spanish Fork Peak, which is about 10,193 feet (3,107 meters) tall. To the northeast is Ether Peak, about 7,533 feet (2,296 meters) tall. Between these mountains is Maple Canyon.

Many Mapleton residents still call Spanish Fork Peak "Maple Mountain." The city also has a canal called the Mapleton Lateral Canal. This canal crosses the eastern part of the city.

Mapleton is still a bit like a countryside area. However, it is quickly growing with new neighborhoods. The city is not directly next to Interstate 15. This has helped it stay more rural than nearby cities like Springville and Spanish Fork.

The main road through Mapleton is U.S. Route 89. Mapleton tries to protect its natural foothills. Many homes in the city are on large pieces of land.

You can find a few places to eat in Mapleton. There is a Subway restaurant and a Guadalajara Mexican Food restaurant.
