María Antonieta Gómez Rodríguez (born on December 4, 1949) is a famous Mexican actress, comedian, singer, and author. She is best known by her stage name, María Antonieta de las Nieves. Her most famous role is La Chilindrina, a main character from the popular TV show El Chavo del Ocho.

Early Life and Family

María Antonieta de las Nieves was born in Mexico City, Mexico. Her parents, Estanislao Gómez Ocampo and Delfilia Rodríguez Ocampo, had moved to the city from Santiago Ixcuintla, Nayarit. She is the youngest of their seven children. Her parents owned a store that sold women's clothing.

In 1985, Mexico City had a big earthquake. Sadly, María Antonieta lost one of her brothers, José Luis, when his house fell down. His wife and daughter were able to survive.

A Career in Entertainment

María Antonieta de las Nieves started her acting career very young. She first appeared in a movie called Pulgarcito in 1957. This was a fantasy film.

Becoming a Voice Actress

When she was just 10 years old, María Antonieta began working as a voice actress. She lent her voice to many characters in Spanish. Some of these characters include Wednesday Addams from The Addams Family and Eddie Munster from The Munsters. She also voiced Batgirl in Batman and Invisible Woman in Fantastic Four. Her first TV show, called a telenovela, was Estafa de amor in 1961.

The Famous Role of La Chilindrina

María Antonieta became very famous for playing La Chilindrina in the TV show El Chavo del Ocho. This show was made by Televisa. She also played a main role in El Chapulín Colorado until 1973.

The creator of the shows, Chespirito, heard her voice when she was working as a voice actress. He thought her voice was perfect for the character of La Chilindrina. He offered her a job on his new TV program, and she accepted.

Both El Chavo del Ocho and El Chapulín Colorado became huge hits. They were popular all over Latin America, in New Zealand, and in the United States. The shows were even translated into many other languages. The actors from Chavo and Chapulín traveled a lot while the shows were being filmed. Even after filming stopped in Mexico, the actors continued to tour. The shows are still shown in many Latin American countries and in the United States today.

Other Acting Roles

In 1994, María Antonieta starred in a show called Aquí está la Chilindrina. In this show, her character lived in a convent with nuns and orphan girls. Even though it was a short series, it was very successful.

She also played an older aunt named Dulce Amado in the Telemundo telenovela Dame Chocolate in 2007. In 2012, María Antonieta was a contestant on the TV dance show Mira Quién Baila on Univision. She also voiced the character Vanellope von Schweetz in the Spanish version of the movie Wreck-It Ralph in 2012.

Legal Battle for Her Character

In 2003, María Antonieta de las Nieves won an important legal case against Chespirito. This victory gave her the right to play La Chilindrina in public whenever she wanted. It also gave her the rights to the character she played.

Chespirito owned the rights to most of the other characters from his shows. Because of this, some actors, like Rubén Aguirre (who played Professor Jirafales) and Carlos Villagrán (who played Quico), moved to Argentina at different times to continue playing their characters.

Because of the lawsuit, La Chilindrina is the only main character from the original series who does not appear in the animated show El Chavo Animado. She also isn't in its video game, El Chavo Kart.
