Marcell Dareus (born March 13, 1990) is an American former professional football player. He played as a defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL). Dareus played college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide. There, he was named the most valuable defensive player of the 2010 BCS National Championship Game. The Buffalo Bills selected Dareus third overall in the 2011 NFL draft. He also played for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Early Life and High School Football
Marcell Dareus grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. He went to Huffman High School. During his time there, he was a talented athlete. He played football, basketball, and competed in track & field. In track, he was a shot putter.
On the football field, Dareus was an amazing defensive lineman. As a senior, he made 117 tackles and 20 sacks. He even scored a touchdown by returning a fumble. Experts like Scout.com thought he was a top player. He chose to play college football for Alabama.
College Football Career
Dareus started his college career at Alabama in 2008. In his first year, he played in eight games. He helped the Crimson Tide win their first game against the Clemson Tigers. He often played as a nose tackle in important situations.
In 2009, Dareus became a key player for Alabama. He played in 14 games and started four. He was one of the team's best at rushing the passer. He made 33 tackles and 6.5 sacks. He also had an interception that he returned for a touchdown. This great play helped him earn the defensive MVP award in the 2010 BCS National Championship Game.

Buffalo Bills Years
The Buffalo Bills picked Marcell Dareus third overall in the 2011 NFL draft. This made him one of the highest-drafted defensive players from Alabama. He signed a four-year contract with the Bills. In his first year, he started all sixteen games. He recorded 5.5 sacks, which was the most for a Bills rookie in many years.
In 2012, Dareus continued to play well. He finished the season with 5.5 sacks and 39 tackles. He also defended six passes.
Dareus was chosen for his first Pro Bowl in 2013. He had 7.5 sacks and a career-high 46 tackles that season. His fellow players ranked him among the top 100 players in the NFL.
The 2014 season was a standout year for Dareus. He was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 5. He recorded 10.0 sacks, leading all defensive tackles in the league. On October 27, 2017, Dareus was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He joined his former coach, Doug Marrone, there. In the 2017 season, he played five games with the Bills and nine with the Jaguars. He made 28 tackles. In the playoffs, he helped the Jaguars win against the Bills and Steelers. They made it to the AFC Championship game.
In the 2018 season, Dareus started 15 games for the Jaguars. He had 32 tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble. He also scored a safety against the New York Jets. A safety is when a defensive player tackles an offensive player in their own end zone.
In October 2019, Dareus had surgery and was placed on injured reserve. This meant he could not play for the rest of the season. In February 2020, the Jaguars decided not to keep him on the team. This made him a free agent, meaning he could sign with any team.

Personal Life
Marcell Dareus's father is from Haiti. In 2023, Dareus appeared on the TLC show Dr. Pimple Popper. He had a small, harmless lump removed from his eyebrow area.
