Marie Picasso's Journey
Early TV Appearances
In 2002, Marie Picasso was a housemate on the very popular reality TV show Big Brother. After leaving the show, she became a host for several game shows on TV4. She also released a song called Tell The World in Germany. This song was used to promote a local TV show there.
Winning Idol 2007
In the summer of 2007, Marie Picasso tried out for the fourth season of the Swedish singing competition Idol in Stockholm. She sang "Beautiful" by Christina Aguilera. The three judges were very impressed by her emotional voice. They all said "yes," and she moved on to the next part of the contest.
Several weeks later, Marie made it into the top 11 singers. Her strong voice continued to amaze both the judges and the public. Even though she was in the bottom 3 twice, Marie made it to the final show at the Globen Arena. On December 7, she was named the fourth Swedish Idol. She won against the second-place singer, Amanda Jenssen, by a very small difference of only 2%.

After Idol: Music Career
Her First Album: The Secret
Right after winning Idol, Marie Picasso signed a music contract with Sony BMG. Her first song, This Moment, was released. Just one week later, the song reached number one on the Swedish singles chart. It stayed at the top for two weeks and sold over 40,000 copies, earning a double platinum award.
Her first album, The Secret, was quickly recorded and released on December 19, 2007, only weeks after her big win. Like her first song, The Secret also debuted at number one on the album charts. After just one week, Marie's album sold almost 30,000 copies and was certified gold. The album stayed at number one for three weeks in a row, which was longer than any other Idol winner's album.
In early 2008, Marie Picasso announced her first national tour, called The Secret Tour, to support her new album. The tour started on January 25 in Vasteras and finished on April 5 in Örebro. Marie performed a total of 23 sold-out shows across Sweden. In March 2008, The Secret album was certified platinum, having sold over 60,000 copies since it came out.
As her tour was ending, Marie released "Winning Streak," the second song from her album. However, this song did not become popular and did not sell enough copies to reach the top 60 on the Swedish singles chart. This was surprising because her first song and album had sold so well, and she had just finished a very successful tour.
Later Career and Other Projects
Throughout the early summer of 2008, Marie Picasso continued to promote her first album. She appeared on Swedish television and at summer festivals, performing songs from The Secret.
In September 2008, a marketing manager from Sony BMG said that the company was talking with Marie about her future with them. They hoped to keep working with her, but nothing was decided yet. Marie also appeared on the TV show I Survived a Japanese Game Show in 2009.
Later, Marie Picasso was announced as a songwriter for the song "Alive." This song was performed by singer Jasmine Abela in the Maltese national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.
