Mark-Anthony Kaye is a Canadian professional soccer player. He was born on December 2, 1994. He plays as a midfielder for the San Jose Earthquakes in Major League Soccer. He also plays for the Canadian national team.

Early Life and School Soccer
Mark-Anthony Kaye was born in Toronto, Ontario. His parents are from Jamaica. He started playing soccer with Wexford SC in Scarborough. He also played for Ajax SC, Glen Shields SC, and Bryst FA. In 2009, his Ajax SC team won a provincial title.
Mark-Anthony went to John Ross Robinson Public School for elementary school. For high school, he attended Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute. There, he played soccer and was named the team's Most Valuable Player (MVP) twice. He also enjoyed cross country and track and field.
University Soccer Career
From 2012 to 2013, Kaye played university soccer at York University. He played in 29 matches and scored 18 goals during his time there.
In his first year, he was named the OUA Rookie of the Year. In his second year, he was chosen for the CIS All-Canadian second-team. He also made the OUA first-team. In his final season, York University won the OUA championship.
Club Soccer Journey
Starting Out in Soccer
After university, Kaye joined TFC Academy in 2013. This is the youth team for Major League Soccer's Toronto FC. In 2014, he played for the senior academy team in League1 Ontario. He played in nine matches and scored one goal.
Later in 2014, Kaye went on loan to the Wilmington Hammerheads. This team was in the USL Pro league. He made his professional debut on August 23, 2014. The next day, he scored his first professional goal. He also got his first assist in that game. During his loan, he played in 7 matches, scoring 2 goals and getting 2 assists.
Playing for Toronto FC II
In March 2015, Mark-Anthony Kaye joined Toronto FC II. This team was part of the USL. He was one of eight players signed for their first season. He played his first game for them on March 21. He appeared in 22 matches that season.
Time with Louisville City
2016 Season
On January 13, 2016, Kaye signed with Louisville City FC, another USL team. He played his first game for them on March 26. He played in 24 of Louisville's 28 regular season matches. He scored one goal and had three assists. He also played in two playoff matches. He even scored in a penalty shootout in the Eastern Conference Finals.
2017 Season
Kaye missed the first two games of the 2017 season because he was playing for his country. He returned on April 8. He played in 19 regular season matches and scored four goals. He also scored once in the U.S. Open Cup. In the USL Cup playoffs, Kaye started all four matches. His team, Louisville, went on to win the USL Cup Final.
Joining Los Angeles FC
After two seasons with Louisville, Kaye moved to Los Angeles FC (LAFC). This was an MLS team in its first season. He made his LAFC debut in the 2018 season opener. On July 26, 2018, Kaye broke his foot during a game. This injury needed surgery, and he was out of play for several months.
Moving to Colorado Rapids
On July 27, 2021, Kaye was traded to the Colorado Rapids. He made his debut for the Rapids on August 7. On August 21, Kaye scored his first goal for the Rapids. It was the winning goal in a 2–1 comeback victory. At the end of the season, Colorado kept him on the team. Before the 2022 season, Kaye signed a new 4-year contract with the Rapids.
Returning to Toronto FC
In July 2022, Mark-Anthony Kaye returned to Toronto FC. He was traded back to his hometown team after six years away. This move also reunited him with his former coach, Bob Bradley. He played his first game back on July 13. Kaye scored his first goal for Toronto FC on February 25, 2023.
Playing for New England Revolution
On July 13, 2023, Kaye was traded to the New England Revolution. He scored his first goal for this club on February 29, 2024. This goal helped the Revolution win 3–0 in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
Joining San Jose Earthquakes
On December 2, 2024, Kaye was traded to the San Jose Earthquakes. He joined his teammates Dave Romney and Ian Harkes in this move. This trade also brought him back together with his former coach, Bruce Arena.
Playing for Canada
Youth National Team
In May 2016, Kaye was called to play for Canada's U23 national team. He played in two friendly matches against Guyana and Grenada. In March 2017, he was called up again for a tournament.
Senior National Team
Kaye made his debut for the senior team on June 13, 2017. This was in a friendly game against Curaçao. On June 27, he was chosen for Canada's team for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup. He was also named to the squad for the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Kaye scored his first goals for Canada on March 29, 2021. He scored two goals in an 11–0 victory. This game was against the Cayman Islands. In July 2021, Kaye joined Canada for his third Gold Cup tournament. In November 2022, Kaye was called up to Canada's team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
How Mark-Anthony Kaye Plays
When Kaye played for Louisville, he was an "attacking midfielder and winger". But when he moved to MLS, he became a "box-to-box central midfield" player. This means he plays all over the middle of the field. He also plays this role for the Canadian national team.
His coach, Bob Bradley, said that Kaye can cover more ground. He can get to the ball better and win it back. He is also good at winning balls in the air and getting into the box on both sides of the field. These skills make him a special player.
