Mark-Anthony Kaye, born on December 2, 1994, is a talented Canadian soccer player. He plays as a midfielder for the Major League Soccer team San Jose Earthquakes. He also represents his home country, Canada, on their national soccer team.

Early Life and School Soccer
Mark-Anthony Kaye was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. His parents are from Jamaica. He started playing soccer at a young age with Wexford SC in Scarborough. He later played for Ajax SC, where his team won a provincial title in 2009. He also played for Glen Shields SC and Bryst FA.
During high school at Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute, Mark-Anthony was a star player. He was named the soccer team's Most Valuable Player (MVP) twice. He also enjoyed cross country and track and field.
University Soccer Career
From 2012 to 2013, Mark-Anthony played university soccer for York University. He played in 29 matches and scored 18 goals.
In his first year, he was named the Rookie of the Year for OUA. In his second year, he was chosen for the CIS all-Canadian second-team. York University won the OUA championship in his final season.
Professional Club Career
Starting Out in Soccer
After university, Mark-Anthony joined TFC Academy in 2013. This is the youth team for Major League Soccer's Toronto FC. In 2014, he played for the senior academy team in League1 Ontario, scoring one goal in nine matches.
In August 2014, he joined the Wilmington Hammerheads on loan. He made his professional debut on August 23, 2014. The next day, he scored his first professional goal and made an assist. He played in 7 matches for the Hammerheads, scoring 2 goals and making 2 assists.
Playing for Toronto FC II
On March 12, 2015, Mark-Anthony signed with Toronto FC II. This team plays in the USL. He played his first game for them on March 21. He appeared in 22 matches during their first season.
Time with Louisville City
On January 13, 2016, Mark-Anthony joined Louisville City FC in the USL. He played in 24 regular season matches, scoring one goal and assisting three others. He also played in two playoff matches. He even scored in a penalty shootout during the Eastern Conference Finals.
In 2017, he played in 19 regular season matches, scoring four goals. He also scored once in the U.S. Open Cup. Mark-Anthony started all four playoff matches, helping Louisville win the USL Cup Final.
Joining Los Angeles FC
After two seasons with Louisville, Mark-Anthony moved to MLS to play for Los Angeles FC in their first season. He made his debut for LAFC in their opening game of 2018.
On July 26, 2018, he unfortunately broke his foot during a game against the LA Galaxy. This injury required surgery and kept him from playing for several months.
Moving to Colorado Rapids
On July 27, 2021, Mark-Anthony was traded to the Colorado Rapids. He made his debut for the Rapids on August 7. On August 21, he scored his first goal for the team, which was the winning goal in a comeback victory.
At the end of 2021, Colorado kept him on the team for the 2022 season. Before the 2022 season started, he signed a new contract to stay with the Rapids until the end of 2025.
Returning to Toronto FC
In July 2022, Mark-Anthony was traded back to Toronto FC. This move brought him back to his hometown team after six years. It also reunited him with his former coach from LAFC, Bob Bradley. He played his first game back on July 13.
He scored his first goal for Toronto FC in their first match of the 2023 season on February 25, 2023.
Playing for New England Revolution
On July 13, 2023, Mark-Anthony was traded to the New England Revolution. He scored his first goal for the club on February 29, 2024. This goal helped the Revolution win a game in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
Joining San Jose Earthquakes
On December 2, 2024, Mark-Anthony, along with two teammates, was traded to the San Jose Earthquakes. This move brought him back together with his former coach, Bruce Arena.
Playing for Canada
Youth National Team
In May 2016, Mark-Anthony was called to play for Canada's U23 national team. He played in two friendly matches. In March 2017, he was called up again for a tournament.
Senior National Team
Mark-Anthony made his debut for the senior national team on June 13, 2017. On June 27, he was chosen for Canada's team for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup. He was also part of the squad for the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
He scored his first goals for Canada on March 29, 2021, scoring two goals in a big 11–0 victory. In July 2021, he joined Canada for his third Gold Cup tournament. In November 2022, Mark-Anthony was selected for Canada's team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
How Mark-Anthony Kaye Plays
When he played for Louisville, Mark-Anthony was an "attacking midfielder and winger". However, when he moved to MLS, he became a "box-to-box central midfielder". This means he helps both in defense and attack. He also plays this role for the Canadian national team.
His coach, Bob Bradley, has said that Mark-Anthony brings a lot to the game. He can cover more ground, win the ball, and get into the penalty box on both sides of the field.
