Marquise Derell Goodwin (born November 19, 1990) is an American professional football player. He plays as a wide receiver. He is also an Olympian who competed in the long jump in track and field. The Buffalo Bills picked him in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft. He played college football for the Texas Longhorns.
In track and field, Marquise is known for the long jump. He won two national college championships in this event. He has represented the United States in many big competitions. These include the 2008 IAAF World Junior Championships and the 2012 Summer Olympics. He also won a silver medal at the 2015 Pan American Games. He has also competed in short running races like the 60 meters and 100 meters.

Early Life and High School Sports
Marquise Goodwin was born in Lubbock, Texas. He went to Rowlett High School in Rowlett, Texas. There, he played high school football and competed in track and field. He was a star athlete for the Rowlett Eagles.
In track, he had one of the fastest 100-meter times in Texas. He was the state champion in both the triple jump and long jump. He also helped his team win the state title in the 4×100-meter relay. Overall, he won seven Texas Class 5A state track and field championships in high school. He also won first place in the long jump at the 2008 World Junior Championships in Athletics in Poland.
In high school football, he caught 132 passes. He gained 1,709 yards and scored 17 touchdowns.
College Career at Texas
Marquise Goodwin earned a sports scholarship to the University of Texas at Austin. He played for coach Mack Brown's Texas Longhorns football team from 2009 to 2012. He also competed for the Texas Longhorns track and field team.
College Track and Field Success
Goodwin was a two-time NCAA champion in the long jump. He won these titles in 2010 and 2012. He was also named an All-American four times in track and field. He won five championships in the Big 12 Conference. He holds the Longhorns' indoor record for the long jump.
He won the 2011 U.S. Outdoor Track and Field long jump title. He jumped an amazing 27 feet, 4 inches. He won the 2012 Outdoor Championship/Olympic Trials with the same distance. He competed in the 2012 Olympics. He was the top qualifier, but finished 10th in the final.
College Football Highlights
During his college football career, Goodwin started 21 games. He played in 49 games overall. This included the 2010 BCS National Championship Game. He caught 116 passes for 1,296 yards and six touchdowns. He also ran the ball 46 times for 405 yards. He returned 44 kickoffs for 985 yards and one touchdown.
One of his most memorable plays was his first college touchdown in 2009. It was a game-winning touchdown against the Oklahoma Sooners. He also returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown. This helped the Longhorns win against the Texas A&M Aggies.
In the 2012 season, he was named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy. In the 2012 Alamo Bowl, he had a 64-yard rushing touchdown. He also caught the game-winning 36-yard touchdown pass. This earned him the Offensive Most Valuable Player award for the game.

Professional Football Career
Marquise Goodwin showed incredible speed at the NFL scouting combine. He had the third-fastest 40-yard dash time ever. This helped him get picked by the Buffalo Bills in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft. He signed a four-year contract with the Bills on May 10, 2013.
Buffalo Bills (2013–2016)
In his first season (2013), Goodwin played 12 games. He caught 17 passes for 283 yards. He also returned 16 kickoffs for 351 yards. He scored his first career touchdown in Week 6. It was a 40-yard pass against the Cincinnati Bengals.
In 2014, he faced many injuries. He only caught one pass for 42 yards. In 2015, he had two catches for 24 yards. In 2016, Goodwin had his best season with the Bills. He caught 29 passes for 431 yards and three touchdowns.
San Francisco 49ers (2017–2019)

On March 9, 2017, Goodwin signed a two-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers. In his first game with the 49ers, he had three catches for 21 yards. On November 12, 2017, he caught an 83-yard touchdown against the New York Giants. After scoring, he showed a moment of deep emotion. He later shared that he and his wife had experienced a personal loss that day.
In Week 15, Goodwin caught a career-high 10 passes for 114 yards. He finished his first season with the 49ers with 56 catches for 962 yards and two touchdowns. These were new career highs for him.
In March 2018, Goodwin signed a new three-year contract with the 49ers. In Week 6 of 2018, he had 126 yards and two touchdowns against the Green Bay Packers. He finished the 2018 season with 23 catches for 395 yards and four touchdowns.
In 2019, Goodwin played in nine games. He finished the season with 12 catches for 186 yards and a touchdown. The 49ers reached Super Bowl LIV that year, but lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Philadelphia Eagles (2020)
On April 25, 2020, Goodwin was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles. He later decided not to play in the 2020 season. This was due to the COVID-19 pandemic and to focus on his family.
San Francisco 49ers (2021)
In March 2021, Goodwin returned to the 49ers briefly due to a trade agreement. However, the 49ers released him the next day.
Chicago Bears (2021)
On April 16, 2021, Goodwin signed with the Chicago Bears. He ended the season with 20 catches for 313 yards and one touchdown.
Seattle Seahawks (2022)
On May 23, 2022, Goodwin signed with the Seattle Seahawks. In Week 7, he scored two receiving touchdowns against the Los Angeles Chargers. He played in 13 games, catching 27 passes for 387 yards and four touchdowns. He was placed on injured reserve in December 2022 due to a shoulder injury.
Cleveland Browns (2023)
On April 14, 2023, Goodwin signed a one-year contract with the Cleveland Browns. In July, he had a health issue with blood clots in his legs and lungs. However, he was expected to make a full recovery. He was able to practice with the team in August.
In the first two weeks of the 2023 season, Goodwin played in games but did not make a catch.

Goodwin made the 2012 United States Olympic team for the long jump. He had a career-best jump of 8.33 meters (27 feet, 4.25 inches) at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials. This jump was good enough to win a gold medal at the Olympics that year.
At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he qualified for the finals with his first jump. But he finished in 10th place in the final competition.
In 2015, after three years away, he returned to track and field. In his first event back, he jumped 8.37 meters (27 feet, 5.5 inches). This was a personal best, but he just missed qualifying for the World Championship. A month later, at the 2015 Pan Am Games, he won a silver medal.
In 2016, Goodwin won the long jump at an event in Kentucky. He also placed third at the Millrose Games in New York. In March, he placed third at the 2016 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships. He also set a new personal best in the 60-meter dash. He won the long jump at a meet in Guadeloupe with a personal best of 8.45 meters. This was the best jump in the world at that time.
However, his dream of returning to the Olympics in 2016 did not come true. He finished seventh at the Olympic Trials in July. His best jump there was not enough to qualify. In June 2021, Goodwin tried again for the 2020 Olympic Trials. He placed 19th and did not qualify for the Games.
Personal Life
Marquise Goodwin is married to Morgan Snow-Goodwin. She was also a champion hurdler at the University of Texas. On November 12, 2017, Marquise and Morgan experienced a very sad loss. Their baby son was born too early and passed away just hours before a 49ers game. In November 2018, Marquise missed two games. This was because he and his wife experienced another personal loss with their unborn twin boys.
Goodwin and his wife welcomed a daughter, Marae, on February 19, 2020. They also welcomed a son, Marquise Jr., on May 11, 2022. Marquise Goodwin is also a cousin of his former San Francisco 49ers teammate, Adrian Colbert.
