Marquise Derell Goodwin (born November 19, 1990) is an American professional football player. He plays as a wide receiver. Marquise is also an Olympian who competed in the long jump in track and field. The Buffalo Bills picked him in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft. He played college football for the Texas Longhorns.
In track and field, Marquise is known for the long jump. He won two national college championships in this event. Goodwin represented the United States at several big events. These included the 2008 IAAF World Junior Championships and the 2012 Summer Olympics. He also won a silver medal at the 2015 Pan American Games. He has competed in long jump, sprinting, and triple jump. He was a top competitor in the 60 meters and 100 meters races.

Early Life and High School Sports
Marquise Goodwin was born in Lubbock, Texas. He went to Rowlett High School in Rowlett, Texas. There, he played high school football and competed in track and field. He was a star athlete for the Rowlett Eagles.
In track, he had one of the fastest 100-meter times in Texas. He was the state champion in both the triple jump and long jump. He was also part of the team that won the state title in the 4 × 100-meter relay. He won seven Texas Class 5A state track and field championships in high school. He also won the long jump at the 2008 World Junior Championships in Athletics in Bydgoszcz, Poland. He won the United States Junior Championships in 2008 and 2009.
In his high school football career, he caught 132 passes. He gained 1,709 yards and scored 17 touchdowns.
College Career at Texas
Goodwin earned a scholarship to the University of Texas at Austin. He played for coach Mack Brown's Texas Longhorns football team from 2009 to 2012. He also competed for the Texas Longhorns track and field team from 2010 to 2012.
College Track and Field Achievements
Marquise Goodwin was a two-time NCAA champion in the long jump. He won in 2010 and 2012. He was also a four-time All-American in track and field. He won five Big 12 Conference championships. He was named to the All-Big 12 team seven times. He holds the Longhorns' indoor record for the long jump.
He won the 2011 U.S. Outdoor Track and Field long jump title. He also won the 2012 Outdoor Championship/Olympic Trials. He competed in the 2012 Olympics. He was tied for the top qualifier, but finished 10th in the final.
College Football Highlights
During his college football career, Goodwin started 21 games. He played in 49 games overall. This included the 2010 BCS National Championship Game against Alabama.
He had 116 receptions for 1,296 yards and six touchdowns. He also rushed 46 times for 405 yards. He returned 44 kickoffs for 985 yards and one touchdown. He even returned a punt for 22 yards.
Some of his memorable plays include his first touchdown in 2009. It was a game-winning touchdown against the Oklahoma Sooners. Goodwin also returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown. This helped seal a win over the Texas A&M Aggies.
In the 2012 season, Goodwin was named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy. In the 2012 Alamo Bowl against Oregon State, he had a 64-yard rushing touchdown. He also caught the game-winning, 36-yard touchdown pass. This earned him the Offensive Most Valuable Player award for the game.

Buffalo Bills (2013–2016)
Marquise Goodwin was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft. He was the 78th player chosen overall. He signed a four-year contract with the Bills on May 10, 2013.
In his first season, he played 12 games. He caught 17 passes for 283 yards. He also returned 16 kickoffs for 351 yards. In 2014, he dealt with several injuries. He caught only one pass for 42 yards that season. In 2015, he had two receptions for 24 yards.
In 2016, Goodwin had his most productive season with the Bills. He caught 29 passes for 431 yards and three touchdowns.
San Francisco 49ers (2017–2019)

On March 9, 2017, Goodwin signed a two-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers. In his first game with the 49ers, he had three catches for 21 yards.
On November 12, 2017, he caught his first touchdown of the season. It was an 83-yard reception against the New York Giants. After the game, Goodwin shared that he and his wife had faced a very sad family event that day. His teammates supported him during this difficult time. In Week 15, he caught a career-high 10 passes for 114 yards. He finished his first season with the 49ers with 56 catches for 962 yards and two touchdowns. These were new career highs for him.
In March 2018, Goodwin signed a new three-year contract with the 49ers. In Week 6 of 2018, he had a great game against the Green Bay Packers. He gained 126 yards and scored two touchdowns, both career highs. He finished the 2018 season with 23 catches for 395 yards and four touchdowns.
In 2019, Goodwin played in nine games. He finished the season with 12 catches for 186 yards and one touchdown. The 49ers reached Super Bowl LIV that year, but lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Philadelphia Eagles (2020)
On April 25, 2020, Goodwin was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles. He decided not to play in the 2020 season. He wanted to focus on his family during the COVID-19 pandemic.
San Francisco 49ers (2021)
On March 16, 2021, Goodwin returned to the 49ers due to a trade rule. However, the 49ers released him the very next day.
Chicago Bears (2021)
On April 16, 2021, Goodwin signed with the Chicago Bears. He ended the season with 20 catches for 313 yards and one touchdown.
Seattle Seahawks (2022)
On May 23, 2022, Goodwin signed with the Seattle Seahawks. In Week 7, he scored two receiving touchdowns against the Los Angeles Chargers. He played in 13 games, starting two. He recorded 27 catches for 387 yards and four touchdowns. He was placed on injured reserve in December 2022 due to a shoulder injury.
Cleveland Browns (2023)
On April 14, 2023, Goodwin signed a one-year contract with the Cleveland Browns. In July, he was diagnosed with blood clots in his legs and lungs. He was expected to recover fully before the 2023 season began. By August 29, he was back practicing with the team.
In the first two weeks of the 2023 season, Goodwin played in each game. He did not make a catch in those games.

Goodwin made the 2012 United States Olympic team for the long jump. He had a career-best jump of 8.33 meters (27 feet, 4.25 inches) at the US Olympic Team Trials. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he qualified for the finals. He finished in 10th place in the final.
In 2015, he returned to track and field after three years. In his first event back, he jumped a personal best of 8.37 meters (27 feet, 5.5 inches). He just missed qualifying for the World Championship. A month later, at the 2015 Pan Am Games, he won a silver medal.
In 2016, Goodwin won the long jump at the Rod McCravy Invitational. He also placed third at the Millrose Games in New York. In New York, he also finished 6th in the 60-meter dash. He won the long jump at the Meeting Region Guadeloupe with a personal best of 8.45 meters. This was a world-leading mark at the time. He then won the long jump at the IAAF Diamond League meet in Birmingham, England. However, he did not make the US team for the Rio Olympics.
In June 2021, Goodwin competed in the long jump at the 2020 Olympic Trials. He did not qualify for the Games, placing 19th.
Personal Life
Marquise Goodwin is married to Morgan Snow-Goodwin. She was also a champion hurdler at Longhorn. On November 12, 2017, Marquise and his wife faced a very sad family event just hours before a 49ers game. In November 2018, Goodwin missed two games when he and his wife faced another sad family event. Marquise and his wife have three children. Goodwin is a cousin of his former San Francisco 49ers teammate, Adrian Colbert.
