Mars Canada Ltd is the Canadian part of a big company called Mars, Incorporated. This company is owned privately, meaning its shares are not traded on a stock market. Mars, Incorporated is a world leader in making popular foods, pet care products, and delicious candies.

The Story of Mars Canada

Mars Canada started its operations in the late 1940s. It was first a part of a company named Uncle Ben's Inc.

Early Offices

In 1967, the first Canadian office opened in Montreal. A few years later, in 1972, this office moved to Toronto.

Name Changes Over Time

In 1974, the Canadian branch became its own company. It was named Effem Foods Ltd. This name came from the first letters of the founder, Frank Mars, his wife Ethel, and their son Forrest E. Mars. A "limited company" means the owners are only responsible for the money they invested.

The company's name changed again in 1998 to Effem Inc. Then, in 2007, it officially became Mars Canada Ltd., which is its name today. In that same year, Mars Canada was recognized as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers. This award was published in Maclean's magazine.

Where Mars Canada Works

Mars Canada has its main office, called the National Office, in Bolton, Ontario. This location is about 20 minutes north of Pearson International Airport.

Also in Bolton, you can find two important factories. One factory makes pet food, and the other makes food products for people.

The factory that makes candies and chocolates is in Newmarket, Ontario. This location is about 40 minutes north-east of the National Office.
