The Story of Mars Canada
How Mars Canada Started
Mars Canada began its journey in the late 1940s. It started as a part of another company called Uncle Ben's. In 1967, the first office for the Canadian branch opened in Montreal. A few years later, in 1972, this office moved to Toronto.
Changing Names Over Time
In 1974, the Canadian branch became its own company. It was called Effem Foods Ltd. The name "Effem" came from the first letters of the original founder, Frank Mars, his wife Ethel, and their son Forrest E. Mars. Later, in 1998, the company's name changed again to Effem Inc. Finally, in 2007, the company started using its current name: Mars Canada Ltd. In that same year, Effem was even chosen as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers. This was a big honor!

Main Offices and Factories
Mars Canada has its main office in Bolton, Ontario. This town is about 20 minutes north of the Pearson International Airport.
Also in Bolton, you can find two important factories. One factory makes food for pets. The other factory makes food for people.
Sweet Treats Factory
The factory that makes all the delicious candies and chocolates is in Newmarket, Ontario. Newmarket is about 40 minutes north-east of the main office in Bolton.
