Marvin Mitchell (born October 21, 1984) is a former American football player. He played as a linebacker, which is a defensive position in football. Mitchell was chosen by the New Orleans Saints in the 2007 NFL Draft. He played college football at the University of Tennessee. Mitchell also played for the Miami Dolphins and Minnesota Vikings.

Marvin Mitchell's Early Life

Marvin Mitchell grew up in Norfolk, Virginia. He went to Lake Taylor High School there. In high school, he was a great athlete. He was chosen as an all-district player for both offense and defense. On offense, he played tight end.

Mitchell was also good at other sports. He played basketball and ran track. He also competed in shot put, which is a throwing event.

College Football Career

Mitchell went to the University of Tennessee for college. He played for the school's football team, the Tennessee Volunteers. He was supposed to "redshirt" his first year. This means he would practice with the team but not play in games. However, other players got injured. So, Mitchell played in games during his freshman year.

He missed the entire 2004 season. This was because of an injury he got while practicing. The injury happened before the Peach Bowl game in the previous year.

The New Orleans Saints picked Marvin Mitchell in the 2007 NFL Draft. He was the 220th player chosen overall. On June 18, 2007, he signed a three-year contract with the Saints. He was first placed on the team's practice squad.
