Maumelle once had a big building for Target Corporation. This building was a distribution center. It was the second oldest one for Target. It closed down in 2009.

Fun and Recreation in Maumelle
Maumelle has two fun lakes for everyone to enjoy. They are called Lake Willastein and Lake Valencia. Both lakes are surrounded by parks. You can find bicycle trails and wooden bridges there. It's a great place for picnics and fishing.
The Maumelle Veterans Memorial is also located by Lake Willastein. It was officially opened on April 8, 2006.
The city has one of the longest bike trail systems in Arkansas. It's about 13 miles long. These trails let you explore pretty wooded areas.

Maumelle's Infrastructure and Utilities
Central Arkansas Water provides water to Maumelle. They took over this service on March 1, 2016. Other utilities in the county use surface water. This water comes from two reservoirs managed by Central Arkansas Water.
The Big Dam Bridge
The Big Dam Bridge is a very long pedestrian bridge. It is about 4,226 feet (1,288 meters) long. This makes it the second-longest pedestrian bridge in the United States. It is located three miles east of Maumelle. You can find it along Highway 100 (Maumelle Boulevard).
The bridge is 14 feet (4.3 meters) wide. It was designed by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. It rises 65 feet (20 meters) above the Arkansas River and Murray Lock and Dam. It is the longest pedestrian bridge in North America that was built just for walking and biking. Pulaski County Judge "Buddy" Villines opened the bridge to the public on September 30, 2006.
