McConnelsville is a small town in Ohio, United States. It is the main town, or county seat, of Morgan County, Ohio. The village is located on the east side of the Muskingum River.
McConnelsville is about 21 miles (34 km) southeast of Zanesville. It is also about 26 miles (42 km) northwest of Marietta. In 2020, about 1,667 people lived there.

History of McConnelsville
McConnelsville was first planned out in 1817. It was named after Robert McConnell, who owned the land where the town was built.
Geography and Location
McConnelsville is located right on the east bank of the Muskingum River. Across the river is another town called Malta.
There are two bridges that cross the river. You can find them on 3rd Street and 7th Street. The bridge on 7th Street is part of State Route 78.
The village covers a total area of about 1.90 square miles (4.92 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.

The main Morgan High School building was built in 1966. It is located about three miles south of McConnelsville. The school's sports teams are known as the "Morgan Raiders."
The Local Library
McConnelsville has a public library called The Kate Love Simpson Morgan County Library. It is located on Main Street.
The library started in 1920 as a club where members paid to join. In 1934, it opened its doors to everyone in Morgan County. The library moved into its current building in 1997. This building also has a special garage for a bookmobile and a room for community meetings.
Fun Places to Visit
- Big Muskie Bucket -- This huge bucket is what's left of a famous coal mining machine called Big Muskie. You can see it in Miners Memorial Park nearby.
- Morgan County Courthouse -- This historic building is in downtown McConnelsville. It was built in 1858 and has a special Greek Revival style. It still serves as a courthouse today.
- Morgan County Veterans' Memorial Bridge -- Built in 1913, this bridge connects McConnelsville and Malta across the Muskingum River. It is part of a historic area for river navigation.
- Opera House -- Located on the public square, this building was built in 1892. It was one of the first buildings in the county to have electric lights! Many famous speakers and performers have appeared here over the years.
