The Meadow Valley Mountains are a mountain range located in southern Nevada. These mountains stretch through parts of Lincoln and Clark counties. The range forms a long, narrow ridge that runs for about 40 miles (64 km).

Where are the Meadow Valley Mountains?

This mountain range is surrounded by other interesting natural features. To the north, you'll find the Clover Mountains. East of the Meadow Valley Mountains are Meadow Valley Wash and the Mormon Mountains.

If you look southeast, you'll see the Moapa Valley. The Arrow Canyon Range is to the south. To the southwest lies Coyote Springs Valley. Finally, to the west and northwest are the Kane Springs Valley and the Delamar Mountains.

What is the Meadow Valley Range Wilderness?

Most of the Meadow Valley Mountains are part of a special protected area. This area is called the Meadow Valley Range Wilderness. The U.S. Congress created this wilderness area in 2004. It is managed by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. This government agency helps protect and manage public lands.

Being a wilderness area means the land is kept as natural as possible. This helps protect the plants, animals, and natural beauty of the mountains. It's a place where nature can thrive without much human interference.

Exploring the Landscape

The Meadow Valley Range Wilderness has three main types of landforms. First, there's the long, narrow ridgeline of the Meadow Valley Mountains themselves. This is the highest part of the area.

Second, there is a large bajada. A bajada is a wide, gently sloping plain formed by many small streams. This one starts high on the main ridge and slopes east towards Meadow Valley Wash.

Third, you can find the Bunker Hills. These hills are about five miles from the southern part of the central bajada. A notable peak in the range is Sunflower Mountain. This conical (cone-shaped) mountain rises to an elevation of 5,022 feet (1,531 meters) and sits right on the main ridgeline.
